Buddhist Temple Datsan Gunzechoinei, St. Petersburg

Learn about buddhist philosophy, visit an astrologist, and explore the grounds of Buddhist Temple Datsan Gunzechoinei. Built in 1915, the temple and cultural center were constructed by Agvan Dorjiev with the permission of Tsar Nicholas II, despite opposition from the Russian Orthodox Church. In 1919, the Red Army vandalized the temple; although public worship resumed shortly thereafter, opposition to the Buddhists remained. Enter the temple and meet with one of the buddhists who maintain the site and cultural center, discuss their philosophies, and learn about their interpretation of the stars from a buddhist astrologist. View the memorial plaque on the grounds marking the events of 1938, when the monks on the property were gathered and killed as part of the purges initiated by the Stalinist regime. Walk through the surrounding gardens and sample authentic Uzbek cuisine at the popular on-site cafe. The temple is easily accessible via public transportation, but be sure to check opening hours before you visit. • Sam Datsan, of course, is interesting. We were there a few years ago, on a holiday, liked it very much. Recommend for inspection, but not the dining room. 1.07.17 were there when us cleaner nakrichala per woman, she went without chaps! Why there's gaiters-is unclear. I understand when you sign need, why in the dining room? Publicized Russian and Buryat has nothing to do with authentic, even had the impression that they are from the supermarket, either made to "which". The cheapest tea-"Life" in the Pack to 20 rubles. For employees shows that they are very tired and do us a big favor. In the Buddhist temple on Saturday and Sunday there are lectures at 9:00 pm The 3-floor works astrologer at certain hours.

  • Advise after walking on the Elagin island (Saint-Petersburg) go to the Datsan. Inside began as a time service (Sunday, 3:00 pm) interesting and unusual atmosphere. Downstairs in the cellar there is a buffet where you can try delicious Buryat poses ... and inexpensive.
