  • "St. Catherine Armenian Church was built in the tradition of Russian classicism, where wonderful examples of this style of architecture. The church façade, facing Nevsky prospect. In 1780, the spiritual leader of Russian Armenians consecrated the Church of St. Catherine, at celebrations attended by Prince Grigory Potemkin. The Empress herself was not present at the consecration of the temple, but in subsequent years, not once visited him in late 1920, the Church was closed, it was used for warehouses, workshops, offices, that led to his ruin and destruction. In August 1992, the temple was returned to the community and his daunting restoration. July 12, 2000 g. the restored Church was jointly consecrated by Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexy II and Supreme Patriarch-Catholicos of all Armenians garegin II. St. Catherine Armenian Church reopens for parishioners. Image of the restored Temple recalls the distant time of formation of Armenian-Russian relations. Free entrance into the Church, taking pictures is not prohibited. Would like to point out that this church we visited at the end of our tour and received a lot of positive impressions of just what he saw. Very useful and informative visit three such unusual and different Temple: I mean the Kazansky Cathedral, St. Catherine's Catholic Church and the Armenian Church. Recommend to visit these holy places, the more they are very close to each other and even snowfall and wind we had not been a hindrance in this wonderful excursion we all happy.

  • She was in our way and drew attention for being very stylish. Its interior is more simple and unassuming than the average Russian churches, but no less beautiful. It's not a must, but it's worth the entry if you're around.
