Anichkov Bridge, St. Petersburg

(4.8/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
The first structure to cross the Fontanka River, Anichkov Bridge blends a simple design with eye-catching sculptural decorations. Originally built in the 1840s and reconstructed several times since then, the bridge features a set of horse sculptures designed by artist Pyotr Klodt, the favorite sculptor of Emperor Nicholas I. The bronze sculptures crown the structure's four corners and rank among the city's most significant landmarks. Simple yet elegant, the bridge consists of three arched spans and elaborate iron railings, symmetrically decorated with representations of seahorses and mermaids. To see this bridge and the surrounding area from a slightly different perspective, join a guided boat tour of the city's canals. • Gorgeous bridge stretches across the Fontanka on Nevsky Prospekt and thanks largely to the magnificent statues of a young man with the horse. By using them, the author probably wanted to depict the Act of struggle between man and nature to place last. Indeed, this is the way to interpret the photographed image of a young handler in statues of horses.

  • My friend peterburzhenec told about what was the idea of Clodt von Jürgensburg, and why mermaids and sea horses. And here is no longer on the run and thoroughly. The name bridge owes Lieutenant-engineer Michael Anichkovu, whose battalion during the reign of Peter the great was stationed over the Fontanka in the so-called Anichkov settlement. If you will tell stories about some Anichku that pouring out oil ...))) in General, don't get fooled.
