Anichkov Bridge, St. Petersburg

(1,000+ reviews on the web)
Bridge
The first structure to cross the Fontanka River, Anichkov Bridge blends a simple design with eye-catching sculptural decorations. Originally built in the 1840s and reconstructed several times since then, the bridge features a set of horse sculptures designed by artist Pyotr Klodt, the favorite sculptor of Emperor Nicholas I. The bronze sculptures crown the structure's four corners and rank among the city's most significant landmarks. Simple yet elegant, the bridge consists of three arched spans and elaborate iron railings, symmetrically decorated with representations of seahorses and mermaids. To see this bridge and the surrounding area from a slightly different perspective, join a guided boat tour of the city's canals. • This bridge over the Fontanka is a bridge located in the old areas of the city of St. Petersburg. He is best known for the magnificent sculptures representing horses and their trainers placed at the corners. The bridge offers great views of the surrounding palaces, including on the Belosselski Bay Palace. It is the most well-known bridge of the Fontanka.

  • The statues of the horse tamers on the four points of the bridge make it especially interesting. Don't miss the seeing the detail in the iron railings as you walk across the bridge.  more »
