Church
Playful and colorful from the outside, elegant and ornate on the inside, Alexander Nevsky Lavra carries a wealth of historical significance and beauty. Founded in 1710, the massive monastery originally featured a wood construction completed in 1712. The current version was built in 1724, and in 1750 the institution was raised to the rank of a lavra, the most senior grade of Russian Orthodox churches. The monastery bears many architectural styles, including two Baroque churches and a majestic Neoclassical cathedral. When you tour the grounds, do not miss its famed cemetery, the final resting place of many famous Russians, including Tchaikovsky, Dostoevsky, and Glinka. Admission to the monastery itself is free but entry to the popular grave sites requires a fee. Put Alexander Nevsky Lavra at the forefront of your travel plans using our St. Petersburg family vacation planner.

  • Do not forget also, that this is not just a point of interest, not just a historical monument, but a place of worship, Holy. Some tourists so addicted selfi and conversations that are losing a sense of reality. Go to the monastery refectory, dine, will surprise you with price and taste.

  • The Alexander Nevsky Monastery is a must. When one finally comes the Nevsky Prospect at all ends off at the beautiful monastery. The gardens in the courtyard of the monastery have an intimate atmosphere, especially when there is snow. You can walk the many paths that around trees and many graves. The Cathedral is named after Alexander Yaroslavich because he wrongly here the Swedish army would have defeated. In the Cathedral are in a coffin of one and a half tons of pure silver are remnants. It is on the Kazaankathedraal (I think) the most visited Church. Many people are queuing for the silver shrine to make a cross to save and the casket a kiss. For the entrance of the monastery are two cemeteries. The Lazarus cemetery and deTichvinbegraafplaats. On the first cemetery are buried princes, barons and 459 graves. On the other on the right side are many famous Russian poets, composers and writers, including Tchaikovsky and Rubinstein and the vaunted writer Dostoevsky. Entrance to the Cathedral is free, for visiting both cemeteries is charged with 300 rubles. Please note opening times, di-free and from 11.00-16.30.

  • Beautiful serene monastery in the middle of the city. The main church is fantastic.
  • Awesome place
  • Very beautiful place
