Kubychev Square, Samara
(4.3/5 based on 190+ reviews on the web)
Put yourself in the center of Samara's activity at Kubychev Square, one of the largest town plazas in the world. Though the square itself spreads over 8 hectares (20 acres), the surrounding gardens and buildings make it appear even larger. Wander the plaza and have a look at the concrete, Stalinist architecture along its borders. Then, you can walk through the nearby grassy areas, which sometimes feature art exhibits. The area is generally used for parades and other public gatherings, but also sees plenty of daily pedestrian traffic. Before you head to Samara, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly Samara vacation generator, to make sure you see all that Samara has to offer, including Kubychev Square.

  • The monumental building with a gray statue of kuibyshev, look very interesting. Statues of socialist realism organically linked to the architecture of the building, with all its grayness and wretchedness

  • Want to see the largest square in Europe-come to Samara! She is here! 174 thousand square meters. 8 HA-asphalt, 7 hectares of flower beds. Here you can stroll in the summer because its corners completes the 4 small public garden called the Nikolaev (named nasledkika to the Throne), green areas with landscape design, fotovystavkami, benches and shady alleys in the square stood the Cathedral of Byzantine architecture, with a capacity of 2.5 thousand persons and the first stone laid down Emperor Alexander II. Now on the site of the Temple of Opera and Ballet in the style of the Soviet Empire. During the war she performed here, the troupe of the Bolshoi Theatre, first performance took place on March 5, 1942 and 7 symphonies of Shostakovich, the anthem of the blockade. In front of the theatre-the monument to Vladimir Kujbyshevu, whose name and is now the former Cathedral square. Sullen revolutionary in coats and boots, Cap in hand, compressed facial features are stretched. "That's a tired man climbed on a stool." (words by Shostakovich). The square hosts a parade, Christmas celebrations, fairs, Carnival, festivals, Fireworks, an ice rink in winter, in summer the coated field for games. Don't be bored!

  • The red line on the pavement (so marked in Samara tourist route) runs from the river station to Kuybyshev square through the Centre of the old town. If you follow the lines, then it will lead visitors to the city right on the square of Kuibyshev and help find a way back. Kuibyshev area is famous not only for its size, but also history. It hosted the famous parade, from the date which marked the 75years. The fighters after the parade were loaded into trains and went to the front. The parade made a lasting impression on employees of embassies, who were evacuated to Samara on the orders of Stalin. Samara during the war called "the spare capital." Being in evacuation, walked the horses at rehearsals in the Club (now the theatre of Opera and Ballet) D.d. Shostakovich. The Club was first performed "Blockade Symphony" is Stalin's bunker and House officers. Now it is the venue for parades, rallies and demonstrations.
