The Eagle Mounument, Pyatigorsk

(170+ reviews on the web)
On a hill above town, The Eagle Mounument stands as a symbol of the resort and glorifies the Caucasus' abundance of mineral water. According to legend, the eagle was bitten by a snake and about to die; it managed to get under a stream of the mountain water, which eliminated the poison from its blood. This statue was erected in 1901 for the resort's 100th anniversary. Since then, the authorities have replaced it several times, as the eagle kept disappearing. Climb along a wooded path to reach the site, which also offers superb views of the areas below.
