Catherine Park, Pushkin

4.7
#1 of 931 in Parks in Russia
Located just a short drive southeast of St. Petersburg, opulent Catherine Park once served as the official summer residence of Russian royalty. Originally built on the orders of Empress Catherine I, the imposing palace underwent a massive reconstruction during the reign of her daughter Elizabeth, who spent exorbitant sums on grandiose Baroque projects. No expense spared, the building's facade and roof statues once contained over 100 kg (220 lbs) of gold. Now part of a World Heritage Site, the palace and its gardens represent the finest expression of Russian imperial architecture. The easiest way to explore this massive complex is with an audio guide, available at the on-site ticket office. Check online for opening hours and guided tour options. • been here twice. first visit was with tour agent which is excellent; got to cut the line and covered most of the places in the palace with detailed explanations from the tour guide. second visit was with student price ticket but had to queue for 3 hours just to get in; the english audio was not available anymore, not much places in the palace to visit too
  • Very beautiful place. Then again all staff not speak English and line to visit inside palace very long line and very slow I wait more than 1 hour I still not get inside. Make sure before you go you need search information.
  • Beautiful park. Bathroom are hard to find and when you do find them, they are for a small fee. Breathtaking views! A must see!
  • The place itself is marvelous. But. Be ready to wait in really big lines. The organization of museum is quite bad. One line comes after another and it is limited by staff. Be ready that you will spend more than hour waiting in the lines if you wish to visit the palace.
  • The place is beautiful, but be careful, there are pickpockets, 2 disguised actors as Catherine and Orlov, with a photographer, who ask for your purse, don't give your pursre !
