  • In 1558 year by order of Ivan the terrible, started the construction of the walls of the monastery. The uniqueness of the fortifications that the monastery is not on a hill, in a deep ravine stream. The monastery during this construction was led by Abbot Cornelius. Abbot enjoyed the location of Ivan IV, from whom the monastery received rich donations. However, when in 1570, after the Novgorod and Pskov pogroms, the King arrived to the expert of the monastery and the Abbot Cornelius went out to meet him, was killed by the fearsome King right in front of the holy gates. In the year 1581 Stefan Batory squad tried to take the fortress, but was defeated. The monastery stood. In 1638, the fortress was reconstructed. entry, which next to St. Nicholas Church built Petrov tower with gates, vkljuchiliv her in line the walls. At the beginning of the great northern war, Peter the great ordered to strengthen further the Pechora fortress earth rampart with five bastions, moat and battery at the St. Nicholas Church. As such, the fortress has reflected the Swedish assault, 1703. at the end of the great northern war in 1721, the monastery as the fortress lost its military value. Since that time the monastery became one of the richest monasteries in northwestern Russia, which belonged to dozens of villages in all counties of the Pskov Gubernia.

  • Purely religious place. Be sure to visit! Caught in the Pskov region, does not miss the moment to go in Pechory. Take a tour and you won't regret it! For women there are free shawls and skirts at the entrance. Is where to eat, lots of souvenirs.

  • The place to be. Please touch base with the Visitor Service a day or two in advance, if you are planning to visit the caves. Hierodeacon Lazarus (Lazar) is the man in charge.
  • Truly a holy place! All others particularly groups. Necessarily with the children.

  • If you want to see the holy place-come here! The monastery since its foundation never closed each day on the Charter of the Orthodox Church to celebrate the liturgy and other services here was inhabited by many famous spiritual pastors orthodoxy (including Patriarch Pimen), Fr. John Krest′ânkin, Savva shiigumen, Archimandrite Alypy many other true patriots of our mother-church. There are Saints canonized in centuries past and in our time. A special place here-nerukotvornnye, God SIS caves in which one realizes that got into another world ... that thou, man, in General not eternal in this earthly fuss and it's time to think about the future, about the future in eternity. And the belfry! When listened to, chose to your opinion, the best place on the square in front of her and felt (really) blows two big bells, vibrations directly in the chest! And not deaf, that I, frankly, surprised. By the way, Bell ringing and treats, and shooing demons. But even here, read Psalms oil-constant prayer of monks (blessed shiigumen Sawa). Generally, place, grace namolennoe, something this special, чтоли. Here is a little slice of heaven on the sinful Earth, and in this special grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary his mother to Russia. Praise the Savior, that he has given us this abode!
