Explore the old hunting grounds of former tsars at Pavlovsk Palace and Park, the home once belonging to Paul I featuring a large green space with an aviary, trails, and gardens. As you walk through the 607 hectare (1,500 acre) park, you'll pass landscaped gardens, bridges, ponds, rivers, and monuments. Empress Catherine II gave the land to her son, Paul I, and his wife and child in 1777. Construction on the palace began in 1781, and the couple traveled around Europe for years collecting objects to fill their new home. You can tour the interior of the house and view its ornate furniture and artwork. • This is a beautiful, well furnished place. You could easily guess how they lived there. The library is absolutely impressive.
