Church
The Ascension Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox church in Novocherkassk, Rostov Oblast, Russia. It used to be one of the largest churches of the Russian Empire and the main church of the Don Host Province. The five-domed building, which stands 75 meters tall, is a notable example of the Russian Neo-Byzantine architecture. It was erected between 1891 and 1904 on the site of an earlier church. The first church on the site was built to Luigi Rusca's designs. It collapsed in 1846. A replacement church collapsed 17 years later. The existing church building was designed by a local architect, Alexander Yashchenko, and dedicated in 1905. The worshipers were expelled from the church by the Communists in 1934. The Orthodox congregation resumed services in the upper church in 1942, after the Communists had been ousted from the Don Region by the Wehrmacht. The Starocherkassk and Novocherkassk cathedrals are considered the main spiritual centres of the Don Cossackdom. Matvey Platov, Vasily Orlov-Denisov, Yakov Baklanov and other atamans of the Don Cossack Host are buried in the church. A bronze statue of Yermak, the conqueror of Siberia, in front of the porch was designed by Mikhail Mikeshin.

  • When I first saw the Cathedral, I simply admired. Such a huge Cathedral, mighty, occupies the third place in Russia by volume, there is something to be proud of. In the dark it turns out lights illuminated dome very nice and impressive. Public holidays include projector with images of icons and they show the full length of the Cathedral. In recent times, often in conducting reconstruction and in the Cathedral close some parts.

  • Yet majestic Cathedral at night than during the day. Wondrous illumination! Many travel throughout Russia, very very beautiful cathedrals and temples a lot, but unfortunately not always breathtaking. And then right at the entrance of breathless, just a wonderful place. It is a pity that many do not even know how beautiful our country is. And we will definitely return to the Cathedral in summer, and most importantly do not transit, namely in Halifax for a couple of days.

  • Novocherkassk Voznesensky Cathedral sobor_glavnaja Pearl in the necklace of attractions Novocherkassk. It is the third the height of the Temple in Russia. In recent decades, his elegantly restored. Gold dome is visible from any point of the city, they play in the Sun, giving pleasure and residents and visitors. In the evenings the Cathedral illuminated by a wonderful illumination. In the misty evening, he looks like a magical fairytale Castle. And in good dark nights it sparkles and shimmers with different colors. In the days of the great Orthodox holidays directly at the entrance to the Cathedral are projected giant colorful paintings and biblical subjects, majestic and beautiful, come alive. The Interior impresses with its grandeur and magnificence! The special atmosphere of the temple gives unprecedented elation. I have a natural feeling "trepidation" soul and cleanse. If you fall, the acoustics creates an unforgettable sound, penetrating into every cell! And if it is possible to climb the narrow stairs to the tower-top panorama of Novocherkassk, the city stretches at your feet before your eyes! If you're in Tulsa, be sure to visit our cathedral, and you get a magic and unforgettable impressions!

  • Beautiful temple. First I think the Cossack Church in Russia. Illuminated at night. But somewhere up to 12 nights. Further savings. Not all square stone. Asphalt too much. Even more than necessary. The car is where to put the. The city in General. Many old houses. Slept on the street Mayakovsky. The temple is well visible from there. Yes, and next it. Come. At least for an hour, but it's worth it.
