Chkalov Staircase, Nizhny Novgorod

(800+ reviews on the web)
Landmark
Climb to the top of Chkalov Staircase for a view of the Volga River. Built during the Soviet era, the construction of the massive staircase was controversial because of the monumental cost, as well as the use of German prisoners of war as labor. Today, the staircase has become one of the city's most popular landmarks. Take the challenge and climb the 1,500 steps from the waterfront up to Minina Square at the top. It's a long walk, but you'll be rewarded with changing views of the river and the kremlin along the way. Wear comfortable shoes for the trek. • Beautiful place! Most importantly, makes a little sports and simultaneously test your mathematical abilities)) were with his wife in March, decided by all means try yourself and recalculate all the steps. It's done! But you don't say — consider themselves))

  • This is something that should pass each, who visited Nizhny Novgorod. A feeling of eternity ... going, and it doesn't end ...

  • In the winter I do not recommend. Slippery. In the summer for fun from Minin square to the waterfront can be run, but in the opposite direction you can "pump up" the muscles of the legs. Some here are trained. The beautiful kind inspires feats.

  • All tourists here necessarily! One of the locations in Nizhny Novgorod, which is its hallmark! Chkalovskaya stair is made in the form of a huge 8-Ki! At the top stands a monument to Valeryi Chkalov-our fellow countryman, which made the first nonstop flight across the North Pole in America! Eight is perfectly visible from the water when travelling by ship or boat. At the top of the observation deck, which overlooks the confluence of the Volga and Oka rivers 2. This place is no longer the Oka and Volga River only flows downwards.
