Chkalov Staircase, Nizhny Novgorod
(4.7/5 based on 750+ reviews on the web)
Climb to the top of Chkalov Staircase for a view of the Volga River. Built during the Soviet era, the construction of the massive staircase was controversial because of the monumental cost, as well as the use of German prisoners of war as labor. Today, the staircase has become one of the city's most popular landmarks. Take the challenge and climb the 1,500 steps from the waterfront up to Minina Square at the top. It's a long walk, but you'll be rewarded with changing views of the river and the kremlin along the way. Wear comfortable shoes for the trek. • Very steep, long staircase leading from the Kremlin and Chkalov monument to the promenade. Come down easily, but the climb at one go will be hard.

  • Beautifully! View of the river and the city! A pleasant stroll! The symbol of the city. Is required to attend by the guests of the city.

  • Especially tell like and what not, but definitely worth a visit! Above the central square of the city (. Minin and Pozharsky), near the Central pedestrian street Bolshaya Pokrovskaya where all sorts of attractions, just near Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, verkhne-volzhskaya embankment, is the perfect place for a stroll. About Chkalovskoj-it's no secret that is named in honor of the great Russian pilot Valery Chkalov was born in the town of Chkalovsk (or rather then the name was different and was not a city, the distance from the bottom to about 80 km) on the banks of the Gorkovsky reservoir (Volga River), there are two amazing Museum (which I had visited a few times) Museum and transferred his Chkalova restored house with a history of his family and close the same hangar with aircraft which flew Chkalov the aircraft in which he crossed the North Pole, and a museum to honor the Rostislav Alexeev-Museum "hydrofoils"-this does not look to the past, but rather looking at his sketches-view to the future. Again withdrawn from chkalovskoj))) Above monument Anatoliy Solovianenko, excellent view, stationary binoculars a countless number of steps) from the bottom of the monument "boat hero" and the Volga River embankment. This place is worth a visit with the Kremlin, a large, upper Pokrovskaya and nizhnevolzhskoj promenade, plus lots of museums.
