Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery, Moscow

4.8
An oasis of silence and spirituality, Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery was probably founded in the 14th century by St. Peter of Moscow. Once part of an important defensive ring constructed around the city, the monastery complex contains several churches and other structures. The onion-domed main church, dedicated to the Virgin of Bogolyubovo, dates from the 1600s. Arguably the complex's most famous building is a brick cathedral with a shingle roof, built by Peter the Great's mother in the 17th century. Take a guided tour with a monastery official to learn about the history of the complex and see area's usually closed to the general public. • The monastery is included into number of monasteries, which covered Moscow from the North. Still preserved fragments of the walls. Especially beautiful Bell Tower, which overlooks the Petrovka and main Cathedral. Unfortunately, not all historical territory ceded to the monastery, on the former cemetery is located a kindergarten playground, that is correct.

  • The time of the Foundation of the monastery is unknown exactly, it was first mentioned in Rogozhskom a chronicler of the 15th century. Since that time the distant history of the monastery is full of historical events. From 2016 onwards on the territory of the monastery are conducted large-scale repair and restoration work, which began with the archaeological site, just found an extremely valuable set of gravestones from the early 16th century and other discoveries that open new page in the history of Moscow. For the curious-information the Internet abound, or take the paid tour of the monastery will not be disappointed. And for Muscovites and guests of the capital, in my opinion, is required to attend.

  • Historical quiet interesting place in downtown Moscow. Deserted town is not always viable. There is a refectory, for lunch. There is no meat, but eat fish. Prices for "his Good pastries. Pass-through with Krapivenskogo at Petrovka.

  • Amazing! A treasure! Must see.
  • MUST SEE
  • a must place to visit!
  • Nice place, beautiful, ancient. On the territory of the monastery a few temples, admission is free. Not crowded, with the exception of weekends, when guided tours. Believers, it's probably best to visit on weekdays, when there is the opportunity to quietly, thoughtfully to pray. Father friendly. The only thing you need to be careful when visiting the refectory. The Fed is indeed tasty, but too often wrong calculations, and put the plate smaller, more. If the dining room is open to visitors, it equates to caterers, object must be certain performance standards, rather than as God blesses, excuse the pun. Although in this holy place can and does not worth to pay attention to it, but nonetheless. And the rest are all very cool.

  • Beautiful monastery. It is obvious that requires reconstruction and has long been its demands. On the territory of the lively: come the Group of tourists and pilgrims. Nice has a refectory, but we came to a close, pojetosu about the taste of dishes remains anyone's guess.
