#55 of 2,725 in Things to do in Moscow
Tomb of Unknown Soldier honors the Soviet soldiers killed in World War II. See the bronze sculpture of a soldier's helmet and the laurel branch on the banner. An eternal flame on the five-pointed star illuminates the inscription: "Your name is unknown, your deed is immortal." Porphyry blocks filled with soils from 40 hero cities line the path on the right, and the obelisk at the end of the path bears the city names. Watch the changing of the guard ceremony, which occurs every hour. You may see newlyweds leaving flowers at the memorial. • Always this place evokes special feelings, is some kind of emotional uplift, and when you observe the changing of the guard, "cover" patriotic feelings. The place is very strong. for Patriots of their homeland! Near the Kremlin walls, and it is the center of the strength and power of Russia.

  • It takes about 10 minutes, it is set as the music paper... It is also a place that reminds the sacrifices of the Russians for this war 41.45. They are very proud of their victory over fascism

  • Kept very simple, it symbolizes the mass murder and commemorates the victims of the world war and others. The fire also is burning around the clock and turns by 2 soldiers guarded several times that. So a change is worth a visit - the soldiers themselves do not the smallest crazy given the partially penetrating annoying tourists who photograph them.

  • In the changing of the guard you can feel the honor and respect presented to the fallen soldiers. Every hour on the hour the changing take place and it is free to watch. It is recommended to arrive 15 minutes before in order to observe it in the front row.
  • Very good to watch. It happens fast so if you want to see it, you must be there before each hour.
  • On the hour guard changes. Good to see. Get there a bit early to grab a front row in order to catch the scene.
  • Great place to visit. Change of Guards is fun!
  • An easy stop on your way around the Kremlin. Watch the change of the guards, then compare it to the one in Arlington :)

Where to stay in Moscow

The capital of Russia and a huge metropolis, Moscow offers a plethora of different types of accommodations. Many renowned hotel chains are represented in the city, and some of its hotels rank among the world's most luxurious and expensive. Those traveling on a more modest budget can choose among the boutique or Soviet-era hotels. There are also numerous hostels and short-term rental apartments throughout the city. When choosing a place to stay, especially if you're only planning for a short visit, always bear in mind the size of Moscow. Staying too far from the center might mean that the precious time you could spend on sightseeing will be wasted in traffic and transport.
