#2 of 498 in Museums in Moscow
To see one of the world's biggest collections of Russian art, head to The State Tretyakov Gallery. Established in 1856, the museum began as a private collection of artworks acquired by merchant Pavel Tretyakov and housed inside a building designed by artist Viktor Vasnetsov. Today, this national repository of art contains over 170,000 pieces, including notable works by Repin, Kandinsky, and Malevich. The museum's vast collection also includes a series of 12th-century icons painted on wood by unknown artists. Pick up a floor plan at the entrance, and be sure to visit the halls housing sculptures by Shubin, Prokofiev, and Martos. • famous Museum of Moscow, an excellent exposition that never was-but really enjoyed it. Lavrushinsky lane itself is an interesting place)

  • Love this place. Been here many times, each time discovering something new myself. There are many favorite pictures. You can buy audio guide that will make browsing more interesting. You can tell the application to your phone. After a few hours already get tired, but I want to come and come. No doubt I will come again. (there may be queues at the entrance) and better tickets purchased in advance

  • Gallery is very impressive, to bypass a few hours simply unrealistic. But definitely worth a visit. Lots of pictures instantly pops up in memory-Bears in the woods or Alenushka (Vasnetsov), the first thing that comes to mind of the child memory special pleasure you can get from Gallery or purchasing audio guides, as we did last time, or ordering real tour guide as we made at this time. The Guide drew attention to those details that we didn't pay. Gallery-very big pride for Moscow with its thousands of exhibits, shrouded in stories. Highly recommend to visit

  • There are some points which must precisely be considered. 1) It is a MUST to go there in the morning, unless you cannot cover all its parts. 2) You definitely need to have an English map to figure out how the gallery has been organized. 3) Do not miss any part. If you are in short of time or sth else, plan to come again. The gallery is really a dynamic ocean of art.
  • This is an amazing place - the largest art gallery in Russia. Here you can see more than 1300 works of Russian art. It is possible to order a tour guide service, or an audiguide in many languages. A quiet, creative place with an atmosphere. Inside there is also a cloakroom, a luggage room, a restaurant, a cafe, shops for tourists.
  • Great museum of russian art! Really made me appreciate the complexity of the the country's artist. Got an audio guide and could have stayed there all day. The line was an hour and a quarter long. They handle big crowds pretty well.
  • Wide variety of paintings. Worth a look but you mind want to get an audio guide because the descriptions are not always available in English
  • That's a must-see place in Moscow for sure. Had a lots of doubts about kids (13, 9 y.o.) though they enjoyed, too. We took a personal guide, and luckily took a good one. He focused on both me and my wife, and the kids. Tip: take online tickets, as it saves time
