The State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow
(4.8/5 based on 3,800+ reviews on the web)
To see one of the world's biggest collections of Russian art, head to The State Tretyakov Gallery. Established in 1856, the museum began as a private collection of artworks acquired by merchant Pavel Tretyakov and housed inside a building designed by artist Viktor Vasnetsov. Today, this national repository of art contains over 170,000 pieces, including notable works by Repin, Kandinsky, and Malevich. The museum's vast collection also includes a series of 12th-century icons painted on wood by unknown artists. Pick up a floor plan at the entrance, and be sure to visit the halls housing sculptures by Shubin, Prokofiev, and Martos. • One of the best collections I've ever seen. I don't like the museums, which says it all. I loved and I recommend it to everyone

  • An incredible experience to know a large part of Russian art. Between Impressionism and Classicism, through periodic exhibitions of modern art. Very pleasant to spend an entire day among the many rooms of the museum. Nice and accessible to all.
  • Be sure to buy a ticket to the museum and see the gallery. Here you can spend the whole day. It is one and the most popular museums in Moscow
  • You could spend all day here. Good museum at a decent price. If you happen to know someone Russian, get them to by tickets as they are cheaper.
  • Amazing paintings and sculptures! It's huge and a visit can last 2 hours or more to watch them all.
