To see one of the world's biggest collections of Russian art, head to The State Tretyakov Gallery. Established in 1856, the museum began as a private collection of artworks acquired by merchant Pavel Tretyakov and housed inside a building designed by artist Viktor Vasnetsov. Today, this national repository of art contains over 170,000 pieces, including notable works by Repin, Kandinsky, and Malevich. The museum's vast collection also includes a series of 12th-century icons painted on wood by unknown artists. Pick up a floor plan at the entrance, and be sure to visit the halls housing sculptures by Shubin, Prokofiev, and Martos. • If you want to meet real Russian painting, go here. Collection of Russian art patrons of the Tretyakovs impresses with its scale. There are pictures of all of the outstanding Russian artists-Aivazovsky, Ilya Repin, Surikov, Savrasov. If you one day in Moscow, it is better to forget about all the other sights of the capital, which, in truth, not so much, and go to Tret′âkovku. You will get unforgettable impressions. He worked as a translator of Italian have something restaurateurs, who came to Moscow for a business meeting, at Tret′âkovku, according to the plan, took 2:00, but we dragged them out with difficulty through the 4:00

  • Not so interesting. Old stylish rooms and staff... Quite rude! If you like religious art, there are better ones.
  • Fabulous ancient Russian icons, very nice Russian impressionist Vrubel' expo and more. One of the best Russian art galleries if not the best. Ps Russian museum in st Petersburg also had amazing icon range
  • I would recommend this museum over the Pushkin museum. The Pushkin museum is full of copies (the idea being you can experience accurate copies of famous works of art, from all over the world, in one place). All of the paintings and sculptures at the Tretyakov museum are originals.
  • Great overview of Russian painting up to the 20th century. Don't miss Ivanov.
  • An overwhelming collection of Russian painting. Well worth a visit.
