#3 of 210 in Historic Sites in Moscow
Church Specialty Museum
Situated just a short drive southeast of Moscow's city center, The Moscow State Integrated Art and Historical Architectural and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve combines history and nature. Formerly a rural estate developed as a summer retreat for the wealthy grand princes of Muscovy, this open-air museum contains both authentic and reconstructed historical buildings. The complex notably includes a 16th-century church built to commemorate the birth of Ivan the Terrible. Constructed of white stone, the church significantly departed from Byzantine building tradition by incorporating an octagonal body and a tiny dome. Other notable structures within the complex include a log cabin built for Peter the Great and a reconstruction of a wooden palace famed for its fairytale roofs. Where to stay in Moscow

The capital of Russia and a huge metropolis, Moscow offers a plethora of different types of accommodations. Many renowned hotel chains are represented in the city, and some of its hotels rank among the world's most luxurious and expensive. Those traveling on a more modest budget can choose among the boutique or Soviet-era hotels. There are also numerous hostels and short-term rental apartments throughout the city. When choosing a place to stay, especially if you're only planning for a short visit, always bear in mind the size of Moscow. Staying too far from the center might mean that the precious time you could spend on sightseeing will be wasted in traffic and transport.
