When touring Red Square, don't miss the chance to take a comprehensive tour of the history of the Russian land and people at State Historical Museum. Easily recognizable by its ornate, red-brick building, the museum houses millions of artifacts that range from prehistoric times to the beginnings of the modern age. Inspect the rich archeological collection, see the rare medieval scrolls and manuscripts, weapons, armor, clothes, and costumes from various periods, as well as the vast selection of impressive artwork and much more. Many of the displayed items have a very important place in Russian history. In addition to the permanent display, the museum regularly hosts numerous temporary exhibits--find the schedule for these online. Getting an audio guide is the best way to truly appreciate the collection for those who don't speak Russian. Where to stay in Moscow

The capital of Russia and a huge metropolis, Moscow offers a plethora of different types of accommodations. Many renowned hotel chains are represented in the city, and some of its hotels rank among the world's most luxurious and expensive. Those traveling on a more modest budget can choose among the boutique or Soviet-era hotels. There are also numerous hostels and short-term rental apartments throughout the city. When choosing a place to stay, especially if you're only planning for a short visit, always bear in mind the size of Moscow. Staying too far from the center might mean that the precious time you could spend on sightseeing will be wasted in traffic and transport.
