4.5
#7 of 498 in Museums in Moscow
Moscow's largest museum of Western art, Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts holds one of the most significant collections of Impressionist and post-Impressionist works in the world. Opened in 1912, this institution also displays Renaissance masterpieces, notably works by Botticelli, Tiepolo, Veronese, and Rembrandt. An exhibit dedicated to ancient civilizations, a major draw for history buffs, contains examples of Egyptian ritual items, sarcophagi, jewelry, and weapons. Pay special attention to the displays featuring 2000-year-old artifacts from the purported site of ancient Troy, excavated in the 1870s by German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann. Pick up an audio guide at the info desk in front of the museum shop. • European collection, in we went. But hey I was really here at entrance is small, others less so. Too wide but who many felt tightly packed groups of tourists, among them a spectacular piece, is a good space too, but here is just the right size. It is a long time abroad must be sick to go to the Museum of fine arts. It was a good time.

  • The Pushkin Museum of fine arts consists of several buildings. Highlights a headquarters in the No. 12 of the Volhonka Street and a collection with works by the Impressionists to 20th century in the Palace of the n ° 14 of the same street. Each collection is paid separately. The main building is the treasure of Priam (treasure of Troy) famous for disputes between various countries to recover it and some works of Rembrandt, Rubens, Rivera, Zurbarán and Murillo... Building No. 14 has works by Goya, Gauguin, Picasso, Matisse, Delacroix, Miró and impressionist painters: Manet, Degas, Lautrec, Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh. It is pretty close to the Kremlin (less than 15 min walk) and several metro stops. It is worth

  • Decent museum to spend half a day. You can pay 300 rub for main museum plus special exhibits or 550 rub for main, special plus new wing (building across side road). Main museum has good highlights of art from ancient Egypt to early 20th Century while new wing covers 19-20th Century Europe and US artists. If you have time, don’t miss new wing as you will find a lot of works by great artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, Manet, Cezanne and more.
  • Wonderful museum, but very disorderly. If you don't speak Russian, finding your way around is challenging. I found myself wandering the corridors in hoping of finding the next set of rooms that I But the rooms! The rooms are full of wonderful pictures, mostly 16-18th century Dutch and French paintings. The visit would be worth it even if only to see the six Rembrandts there. If you can find them, of course.... :-)
  • A gem overlooked by many visitors to Moscow. Priam's Treasure (discovered by Schliemann at Troy) by itselfwould make the trip worthwhile by but there is far far more to discover! Not much information on the collection available in English or in Russian but you can certainly get by without it.
  • One of the best museum of Moscow. It is possible to enjoy masterpieces of all eras, from Mesopotamia, ancient Greek and Roman empire till modern time.
  • A great deal of sculptures (roman ) and painting depicting Christ-relates things and noble or royal families. There's audioguide available in about in languages.

Where to stay in Moscow

The capital of Russia and a huge metropolis, Moscow offers a plethora of different types of accommodations. Many renowned hotel chains are represented in the city, and some of its hotels rank among the world's most luxurious and expensive. Those traveling on a more modest budget can choose among the boutique or Soviet-era hotels. There are also numerous hostels and short-term rental apartments throughout the city. When choosing a place to stay, especially if you're only planning for a short visit, always bear in mind the size of Moscow. Staying too far from the center might mean that the precious time you could spend on sightseeing will be wasted in traffic and transport.
