Patriarch's Pond, Moscow

4.6
#13 of 561 in Sightseeing in Moscow
Landmark Tourist Spot
Stroll down pathways shaded by trees at Patriarch's Pond, immortalized by writer Mikhail Bulgakov in his world-famous novel "The Master and Margarita." Look for the road sign that says "Do not talk to strangers," showing the silhouettes of the novel's devil and his henchmen. The pond, surrounded by a wide path with benches, also features a boathouse made of stone. You can see statues of Bulgakov and Ivan Krylov, a 19th-century Russian children's writer, near the pond. Have a drink at the cafe Margarita, another reference to the famous novel. Add Patriarch's Pond and other attractions to your Moscow trip itinerary using our Moscow family vacation planner.

  • Just a small pond, but it's historical place with huge background, and that place was described in Bulgakov's novella The Master and Margarita.  more »
  • A not very big 'pond' within a built up area. But it is very serene and a great place to jog. There are a few good sculptures in the gardens that surround the water. Perhaps not worth a walk to but if...  more »
  • This park is set within a very trendy area of Moscow centre, with barista style coffee shops over looking the park which is so lovely just to stroll around, with sculptures on one side to view..  more »

  • if you don't know Russian classics and not a fan of "master and margarita" then just a pond in the city. Hipsterish restaurants around.
  • During winter is a very romantic spot!! You can find shops, restaurants and you can skate!
  • Very romantic. Must visit on your visit to Moscow
  • Well this is now one of the most European parts of Moscow. If you want to go for a walk and to eat in a better than usual restaurant you shall come here.

Where to stay in Moscow

The capital of Russia and a huge metropolis, Moscow offers a plethora of different types of accommodations. Many renowned hotel chains are represented in the city, and some of its hotels rank among the world's most luxurious and expensive. Those traveling on a more modest budget can choose among the boutique or Soviet-era hotels. There are also numerous hostels and short-term rental apartments throughout the city. When choosing a place to stay, especially if you're only planning for a short visit, always bear in mind the size of Moscow. Staying too far from the center might mean that the precious time you could spend on sightseeing will be wasted in traffic and transport.
