The Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos at Putinki is one of the most picturesque churches in Moscow and the last major tent-like church in the history of Russian architecture. The Nativity church at Putinki consists of six exquisite tented roofs arranged in a highly unusual composition. Three candle-like tents, placed in a row, crown the church, while its refectory is surmounted by several rows of corbel arches and the fourth tent. The fifth tent is a belltower placed between the church and refectory. The porch also terminates in a pyramidal roof. The church was commissioned by Tsar Alexis Mikhailovich in 1649 in order to grace a highway leading from Moscow to the Trinity Monastery. Construction works were completed within three years. As the story goes, Patriarch Nikon, when passing the church on his way to the Trinity Monastery, was so scandalized by its unorthodox design that he prohibited the construction of tent-like churches altogether. The Soviet authorities closed the church in 1938 but they also funded repair works in 1957. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the church was reopened as the patriarch's metochion.

Also called the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Putinki, this beautiful church is truly rare and unique because it is one of the last churches with roof at the cusp of history of Russian architecture ("the cusp is an architectural element triangular plate with decorative function. Is a typical element of Gothic architecture: it is present in the façade more Gothic cathedrals, such as the duomo di Siena and the Duomo di Orvieto ") The church there are in fact six cusps. Three of them, arranged in a row, Crown cover. The 4th cusp above the refectory, while the Center covers the Bell Tower. The church square pyramidal style ends. The construction of the building began in 1649, following the burning of a pre-existing structure were completed in a few years, so that the Church was completed in 1652 but because of his unorthodox style judged absolutely, Patriarch forbade that other churches were built in this way. Restored several times since the late 1800 's, was closed by the Soviets as almost all other religious buildings in the years ' 30 and only in 1991 was returned to the cult citizen. This church is located near the Central Tverskaya Street and worth a visit.

Beautiful Cathedral by outside and very modest inside. It was restored after the fall of the USSR. A quiet place to reflect.

Where to stay in Moscow

The capital of Russia and a huge metropolis, Moscow offers a plethora of different types of accommodations. Many renowned hotel chains are represented in the city, and some of its hotels rank among the world's most luxurious and expensive. Those traveling on a more modest budget can choose among the boutique or Soviet-era hotels. There are also numerous hostels and short-term rental apartments throughout the city. When choosing a place to stay, especially if you're only planning for a short visit, always bear in mind the size of Moscow. Staying too far from the center might mean that the precious time you could spend on sightseeing will be wasted in traffic and transport.
