(4.8/5 based on 60+ reviews on the web)
The Monument to the Conquerors of Space was erected in Moscow in 1964 to celebrate achievements of the Soviet people in space exploration. It depicts a starting rocket that rises on its contrail. The monument is 110 meters tall, has 77° incline, and is made of titanium. The Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics is located inside the base of the monument.Location and surroundingsThe monument is located outside the main entry to today's All-Russia Exhibition Centre (known until 1992 as the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy, VDNKh), in the northeastern part of Moscow, near Prospekt Mira ("Peace Avenue"). The easiest access is from the VDNKh subway station.Since the 1960s, this part of Moscow in general has had a high concentration of space-themed sights and names: besides the monument and the museum under it, the grand "Cosmos" pavilion in the Exhibition Centre displayed many artifacts of the Soviet space program. Many streets in the area have been named after the precursors of the space program (Nikolai Kibalchich, Friedrich Zander, Yuri Kondratyuk) and its participants (Sergey Korolyov). The Cosmonauts Alley south of the monument features busts of Soviet cosmonauts.

  • The monument to the conquerors of space "in the area of VVC is one of the most significant monuments of the Soviet period, and, admittedly, fresh looks and majestically still. But earlier and generally is deservedly called the Rapture. A monument scale, has a height of over 100 m, at the top-bottom-the rocket soaring as gas Jet. Very dynamic and expressive. In my childhood I thought how cool it would be to climb up and slide downhill from there (just kidding). In the Soviet years at such status means construction is not spared, with the result that there are cladding with titanium plates that give the monument a spectacular appearance and durability. On the granite basis the monument depicted figures of people of different professions, have contributed to the development of Soviet cosmonautics. So all looks good in nature and attractive appearance. In addition to the monument, there is also a Museum of cosmonautics. See this whole complex of buildings is definitely worth at least a memory of the great Soviet space era.

  • This monument, which can be reached after several changes of subway, it's great, visible from afar and above, as fair, the basement underlying museum devoted to space achievements. Nice from afar and even more closely, this monument has as its colossal sculpture panels stand on each side. There are, in the park that surrounds the monument, the busts of the conquerors of space. Unmissable monument due to the proximity of the Space Museum and the nearby exhibition area; all in the North of the capital Moscow. Provide for a whole day in this part of town.
