Mikhail Bulgakov's Museum, Moscow

#26 of 498 in Museums in Moscow
Visit the strange world that surrounded and influenced one of Russia's most famous 20th-century writers at Mikhail Bulgakov's Museum. Situated on the fourth floor of the communal apartment block where Bulgakov had a room after coming to Moscow, the museum melds the authentic atmosphere of the time with the supernatural scenery of his novels, most notably "The Master and Margarita," where the writer immortalized his quarters as "The Odd Flat." The museum is furnished and decorated to take you back to the time when the writer lived there, featuring various personal belongings as well as those of family and contemporaries. The museum regularly organizes theater performances of Bulgakov's plays, novels, and stories. The ground floor of the same building features another museum dedicated to Bulgakov as well, so consider combining the two for the full experience. • The Museum bus excursion, devoted to the same Museum-City theme. The museum itself is small, but with his writing is imbued with the spirit.

  • I do not know as of now but used to be walking on noisy Garden, wrap in the arch, turn out to be a quiet courtyard and enter the "apartment" biased:) See how Bulgakov.

  • On the day of the city went to Tver, where music rattled. Muscovites and guests of the capital hiked with breadth and scope. And here we find ourselves near the Metro Mayakovskaya. I have a long tradition. If I visit this place and have time, then by all means visit the Garden, House, 10 in the House the Museum of Mikhail Bulgakov. My tradition for many years. Once in this House the official Museum was not, it was only a few personal belongings of the writer, and came back a few. Now a museum already became chargeable. On the day of the city museums are free. The House faces now tram "Anushka" retro-car. You can make wonderful photo. In the first entrance on the ground floor in several rooms and a Museum of Bulgakov. Here you get into the atmosphere of the life of the writer. You can see the typewriter on which was written by my favorite book "master and Margarita", mirror, desk, furniture, books, records and other personal belongings of the writer. Wonderfully cosy atmosphere reigns in the Museum. It seems now reluctantly opens the door and enters it-Mikhail Afanasyevich! Here on the ground floor there is a wonderful Café where you can drink coffee, tea and a snack. In the evenings the Café often hosts music concerts, performances are played. No of times visited itself remarkable concerts bards, not very well-known, but what songs to sing and what to vote ... Here you can buy a ticket for a tour of the city "Bulgakovskaja Moskva" with a guide, visiting all iconic places, including writer and this Museum, and "naughty" apartment in an adjacent stairwell. Highly recommend to visit this café and imbued with an amazing creative atmosphere. My dear Muscovites and guests of the capital, if you love the creativity of Bulgakov, then you here!

  • If you're a Master and Margarita fan, you can't skip on visiting "that damn building". The apartment has a few rooms decorated like they would be in Bulgakov's house, art installations and temporary exhibits. The stairs leading there became a place of pilgrimage during the USSR. People would flock there to write their favourite quotes and make drawings, and there are several layers of paint visible. I visited the apartment museum on the 4th floor, not the state museum on ground level.
  • Great place if you want to learn about place where Bulgakov lived with authentic things (platters, tables, costumes, etc). Very good guides (offers you lots of information and stories). Theatrical excursions are available here (based on "Master and Margarita"). Pros: cash-only tickets, lots of people on holidays.
  • There is a guided tour for 300 rub or you can go in own your own for free, it's basically a flat in the same building Bulgakov used to live, the tour goes through 3 rooms and there is a display of his life events and related history, the tour is in Russian only, however there is a some literature in English available but the most interesting facts were told in Russian by the tour guide, there is a small coffee shop and a gift shop in the apartment, you can also write a note with a wish and they will put it in a balloon and send it to the sky at the last week of August. All in all, it's a nice place, would recommend that you bring a Russian friend
  • Nice and fine Museum. They have information about the Poet in English.
  • Cheap and scanty made museum. I'm immediately regret my decision to visit this pace, as soon as I've entered exposition rooms.
