  • Kitai-Gorod and Varvarka Street came under a new distribution of the Mayor. Dug, blocked and demolished several buildings. And all for the sake of the construction of the new Park and somehow 5 star hotels. But all of it, of course, will not be demolished by this can still visit the English Court, the House of boyars Romanovs, churches and a synagogue. I visited.

  • Stroll the streets of Kitai Gorod is to find somewhere pleasant, entertaining, and full of history, in which the city of Moscow is humanized and disappears the aggressiveness that characterizes it. Its history begins in the 11th century, as a Citadel surrounded by walls and in the 14th century already the first artisans settled here. With the passage of time, they were replaced by the boyars and the representatives of the clergy. When in century 19th Moscow was invaded by Napoleon, the city of Kitai Gorod was burned down. When Moscow was released, it was rebuilt and already made all in stone. In the 20th century became the area of business, banks, etc. It borders to the South with the Moskva River and to the East with the Kremlin. Kitai Gorod name began to be used in the 16th century. This time some remains of wall behind the Metropol hotel, among others. The main streets, for me are Varvarka, Ilinka, and Nikolshaya. The Ulica Varvarka Street is full of old buildings, especially churches uncovered in the plot that was formed with the demolition of a huge hotel. Small and precious churches like the of Santa Barbara, St.George and Santa Trinidad de Nikitniki, red and white. This street is a true Marvel, but difficult access, during my visit, by works that it retain all fenced. It is also on this street the Palace of the Romanov boyars, of the 16th century, which is now a museum that shows the style of the Russian nobility in medieval times. And the English House that was a gift from Ivan the terrible to an English delegation. The Mint, at the end of the 17TH century. The Nikolshaya Street is half pedestrian, with beautiful gardens and many shops. I recommend you start the walk from red square. There is the monastery of el Salvador after the icons, which means that once stood behind the shops of icons. No. 15 is the synodal printing press, which was the first printing press of Russia, of 1563. There is a particularly interesting ancient library. I believe that he is called Sytin. The Tretyakov Gallery, with stores of luxury brands are at the end of the street. In the promenade and gardens between Novaya, Staraya and Lubianskii Proezd, where is the Polytechnic Museum, there is a monument which particularly attracted my attention: Pamyatnik memorial, dedicated to the heroes of Plevna, which was a battle waged by Russian grenadiers against the Ottomans, for the liberation of Bulgaria. Very emotional. Today Kitai-Gorod is one of the areas protected by the Government. He is not allowed that the new houses are higher. There are many museums, theatres and other cultural buildings which have been placed in the restored mansions. Kitai Gorod and everything in it is highly recommended, I believe, essential to both culturally and for leisure.
