Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center, Moscow
(4.4/5 based on 480+ reviews on the web)
Understand the complex history of Russian Jewry by looking into personal testimonies, archival video footage, and interactive high-tech displays at Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center. The museum opened in 2012 in the restored Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage, a world-famous Constructivist masterpiece. Architects Melnikov and Shukhov designed the building in 1926. Notice how the interior lighting resembles slanted rays of sunshine. The exhibits, divided chronologically in 12 galleries, evoke the lives of Russian Jews since the late 19th century, with special emphasis on the fate of Soviet Jews and the role of Jewish soldiers during World War II. The museum also features a shop, a lecture hall, and a cafe. • It so happened that one month was able to visit more museums in 5 different cities of Russia and several of them have aroused particular interest. Why? The fact is that the new trend in Museum Affairs is interactivity, i.e. the use of modern technologies and capabilities in Museum practice. The Jewish Museum is no exception. Surprised everyone: the room in an industrial style, rooms that do not have exact borders, the exposition is accompanied by sound, light design, a large number of tablets and special stands allow you to explore the materials yourself. Cinemas, electronic encyclopedias, etc. and so on this museum worth a visit not only to fans of history, but also all those who belongs to the history of our country with awe and affection.

  • Museum built as a big hall divided by areas. I could not read Russian letters and understand anything without a guide. Since a guide cannot concentrate at all exhibits but by maybe main ones then it c...  more »
  • I think a mandatory visit this Museum while in Moscow. He is very interactive, children there wondering, but they can be and leave at the children's Center, where very professional working with them. History of the people, formed over time from room to room eats unnoticed moment by moment. Hall in memory of the victims of the GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR is simply staggering. All employees are very good professionals. One time I was here, but each time, being in the area on business, visit, as to all listen and read what is in this Museum, you cannot make per visit.
