Blending modern shopping with history and architecture, GUM Department Store (Glavny Universalny Magazin) remains the country's largest shopping mall. Constructed during the 1890s, the trapezoidal building combines elements of traditional Russian and 19th-century English architecture, including a steel framework and glass roof. A major feat of engineering, the structure gets most of its illumination from giant arched skylights, each one containing more than 20,000 panes of glass. The centrally located mall houses about 200 upscale boutiques, selling internationally known clothing brands, household goods, jewelry, sports equipment, cosmetics, and souvenirs. The building's ground level offers access to cafes, restrooms, and ATMs. Put GUM Department Store (Glavny Universalny Magazin) and other Moscow attractions into our Moscow itinerary maker, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • I am not much of a shopper, let alone of high end priced goods, but if you are, then you will want to visit. Personally you can find all of these same stores all around the world, so no big deal. But ...  read more »
  • GUM is a very luxurious, expensive department store that is worth seeing even if you don't spend a dime there. The architecture is beautiful and a great place to window shop while you're visiting Red ...  read more »
  • Want to feel the atmosphere of NG in any season, then you come here. The truth is a little café. But shopping eyes run up and want everything at once

  • Massive! Avoid peak times during the day since it's overrun with tour buses. Also the stores are on the more upscale sort. Worth the experience but likely not a repeat shopping experience.
  • Well if you are visitng Moscow and you are rich enough you may go shopping here. For anyone else - I suggest to enjoy the building from ourside, see some interriors inside and go shopping somewhere else as most brands here are expensive.
  • The most glamorous shopping of all with a privilege location in front of the Kremlin. Although, expect high prices. Upscale. The coffee shops are nice and accessible. It's very good to go for a walk in this historical building.
  • The building is impressive and nice from the outside. Inside it has those typical expensive clothing, jewelry, ... stores you can find in western europe as well. If you are in Moscow for enjoying the russian culture, skip this too crowded commercial place.
  • A truly unique experience in shopping. The historic toilets are a little expensive at ₽150, but are absolutely spotless and well maintained, when compared to toilets elsewhere in GUM.
