GUM Department Store (Glavny Universalny Magazin), Moscow

(4.4/5 based on 2,800+ reviews on the web)
Blending modern shopping with history and architecture, GUM Department Store (Glavny Universalny Magazin) remains the country's largest shopping mall. Constructed during the 1890s, the trapezoidal building combines elements of traditional Russian and 19th-century English architecture, including a steel framework and glass roof. A major feat of engineering, the structure gets most of its illumination from giant arched skylights, each one containing more than 20,000 panes of glass. The centrally located mall houses about 200 upscale boutiques, selling internationally known clothing brands, household goods, jewelry, sports equipment, cosmetics, and souvenirs. The building's ground level offers access to cafes, restrooms, and ATMs. Put GUM Department Store (Glavny Universalny Magazin) and other Moscow attractions into our Moscow itinerary maker, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • This is a beautiful shopping centre. It is a converted train station. Locals don't shop here. It is very expensive for local Russians unless very well off I think Australia is expensive but this place...  more »
  • A beautiful mall well connected to major underground network writhing the Red Square zone. Beautiful decoration with many to shop, eat and drinks.

  • I'm not particularly keen on shopping malls but going to this one was a pleasant surprise. It is extremely beautiful and despite the modernisation of it they have still managed to somehow preserve the old Soviet style. I highly recommend going on a stroll inside just to see its beauty.
  • If you're up for high end branded shopping then this mall is the perfect one for you. If you just want to look around, this mall has good spots to take pictures. most people queue at the ice cream booth on the ground floor and window shopping while taking pictures
  • Gorgeous Mall in neoclassical architecture facing the Red Square and the famous Bolshoi Theatre. It is the address of choice for top-end Western and local retailers in Moscow. Even if you don't intend to buy anything, a tour of Red Square should always include a quick stroll down the aisles of GUM.
  • A high-class shopping mall in Red Square. The air-con is too weak. The mall has a quarter circle glass celling. Ice-cream is cheap and tasty, only 50rub per scoop. There are many brands in the mall, for example, Samsonite, Bose, Dyson, Levi's, Calvin Klein... Of coz there are Gucci, Hermès, Cartier and so on. A supermarket can be found at the ground level with caviar, ham and imported goods. Gum is a nice, elegant mall next to the Red Square.
  • Vary nice mall! Three floors and beautiful bridges! 😉 The ice cream is sooooo cheap and sooooo good! 😵 You get a real sense of national culture when you enter.
