Department Store Architectural Building
Blending modern shopping with history and architecture, GUM Department Store (Glavny Universalny Magazin) remains the country's largest shopping mall. Constructed during the 1890s, the trapezoidal building combines elements of traditional Russian and 19th-century English architecture, including a steel framework and glass roof. A major feat of engineering, the structure gets most of its illumination from giant arched skylights, each one containing more than 20,000 panes of glass. The centrally located mall houses about 200 upscale boutiques, selling internationally known clothing brands, household goods, jewelry, sports equipment, cosmetics, and souvenirs. The building's ground level offers access to cafes, restrooms, and ATMs. Put GUM Department Store (Glavny Universalny Magazin) and other Moscow attractions into our Moscow itinerary maker, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Great place to visit! After you are tired from walking around Red Square, stop in here and go to the top floor for some food and drink. Prices are decent for the area and the building itself is worth a few pictures. They always seem to have some sort of special showcase on the ground floor. Nice views. A great place to get warm in the winter. The fountain is beautiful. There are restrooms here.
  • Interesting place to walk around. We went twice and for some reason the second time it really didn't have the charm of the first visit. If you are looking for specific premium stores, this is your place, though TSUM seemed better suited to actually making a purchase. I was somewhat confided by the "carnival" theme of GUM. Seeing 50 ruble ice creams stand next to stores with 300,000 ruble for coats was sort of strange. Definitely worth looking at the the architecture and walking around!
  • Very fancy place. Most of the stores are way overpriced. Free bathrooms are available on the 3rd floor of the building, where it gets very hot. There are few ice cream stores on the first level with the best ice cream I tried in town. Worth taking a time to walk here from the Red Square to get an ice cream.
  • Shopping is actually ok here. Wide selection of brands, at times done good sales can be found there. Few nice cafes as well (ground floor). The whole building is also a sightseeing worth a visit
  • The oldest high society mall. Very classic and beautiful. Well decorated and warm inside.
