Alexander Garden (Aleksandrovsky Sad), Moscow

4.7
#4 of 165 in Parks in Moscow
Stroll among colorful flower beds and impressive historical monuments at Alexander Garden (Aleksandrovsky Sad), which stretches along the Kremlin's western wall. Tsar Alexander I ordered the reconstruction of the city after the Napoleonic Wars, with the addition of a new garden. The cast-iron entry gate and grille in the shape of fasces (wooden rods with ax blades) symbolize the Russian victories over Napoleon. Near the main entrance, you can see the tomb of the unknown soldier with an eternal flame, commemorating the fallen heroes of World War II. Taste some ice cream or the savory pies sold along the walking paths. The northern part of the garden is adjacent to a large, underground shopping center. • We came especially to see this park and the Tomb of the unknown soldier. Also to buy tickets for the Kremlin and the Armory you walk through this park.  more »
  • Park under the Kremlin wall. Beautiful and well maintained, but very little by itself. Impression only tarnish periodic giant queues at cash desks for tickets to the Kremlin.

  • Aleksandrovskiy garden is one of the top ten attractions in Moscow, which "necessarily" must visit inogorodnij and foreign tourist. But .... In addition there are "necessarily" and "Want" and "need for the soul!" Here adjoins the Memorial of the unknown soldier and the monument to Tsar (Alexander First), kutafya Tower, Trinity Bridge, Italian Grotto and Monument obelisk in honor of 300 anniversary of the Romanov reign. And of course, the age-old trees and very young new plantings. Everything is carefully preserved and that has been nurtured. Push jaw are administrative buildings. Absolute dissonance. But probably someone is so needed.

Where to stay in Moscow

The capital of Russia and a huge metropolis, Moscow offers a plethora of different types of accommodations. Many renowned hotel chains are represented in the city, and some of its hotels rank among the world's most luxurious and expensive. Those traveling on a more modest budget can choose among the boutique or Soviet-era hotels. There are also numerous hostels and short-term rental apartments throughout the city. When choosing a place to stay, especially if you're only planning for a short visit, always bear in mind the size of Moscow. Staying too far from the center might mean that the precious time you could spend on sightseeing will be wasted in traffic and transport.
