Alexander Garden (Aleksandrovsky Sad), Moscow

(4.7/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Stroll among colorful flower beds and impressive historical monuments at Alexander Garden (Aleksandrovsky Sad), which stretches along the Kremlin's western wall. Tsar Alexander I ordered the reconstruction of the city after the Napoleonic Wars, with the addition of a new garden. The cast-iron entry gate and grille in the shape of fasces (wooden rods with ax blades) symbolize the Russian victories over Napoleon. Near the main entrance, you can see the tomb of the unknown soldier with an eternal flame, commemorating the fallen heroes of World War II. Taste some ice cream or the savory pies sold along the walking paths. The northern part of the garden is adjacent to a large, underground shopping center. • The orchestra played in the Alexander garden, fountains rustled, and all lawns were filled with vacationers. We are here really enjoyed it-it was comfortable leisurely walks along its alleys, cheerfully discussing the events of the day!

  • Along one wall of the Kremlin, where before splashing water of the river Neglinnaya, broken this popular garden. The River now flows in a closed tube and not dedicated hardly guess that is under his feet. Initially, the garden was called Kremljovskim, then renamed in honor of Alexander l. Here is a memorial complex "Tomb of the unknown soldier", which carries the service honor guard. In the center of the garden is arranged in a decorative stone Grotto "the ruins," he laid out from the remnants of the buildings affected during the famous fire during the Napoleonic invasion. This place is mentioned in many literature classics-among them: block, Turgenev, Ostrovsky, Bulgakov.
