(4.3/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Visit Monastery of st Ipaty to see red Romanov chambers that house a historical exhibit and a refectory featuring religious items and old icons. Watch the footage of Tsar Nicholas II and the Romanov family visiting Kostroma in 1913 on a large screen at the entrance. The focal point of the monastery is the Trinity Cathedral, which was built by Tsar Boris Godunov in 1590. It features more than 80 frescoes by a school of 17th-century Kostroma painters. The cafe serves pirozhki and kvass, cooked by local monks. At the market near the monastery, you can buy linen goods and black salt, made only in Kostroma. • Very nice on a bright sunny winter day on the background of glittering snow. A lot of what I learned new for yourself, from both history and iconography. Despite the frosty day, we were very satisfied. When you exit across the road, there are souvenir shops and lots of flax.

  • Blissful place. In the soul of peace and pacification. Be sure to take your individual Guide and learn the history of the monastery, visit the House of boyars Romanovs and the Trinity Cathedral with beautiful frescoes.

  • The monastery is active, masculine. But in the afternoon it operates as a museum. There is always a large number of tour groups, including school. But you can borrow and individual excursion that we did. Cost, honestly don't know: each was calculated. 1.5-hour excursion and quite informative. About "interesting and comprehensible" can't promise here depends on the Guide. But the place itself, of course, signed for the history of the country, I think it will be clear even from the average trips. The territory of the monastery well groomed, neat. There is a church bench.
