Kul Sharif Mosque, Kazan

Named after a Tatar imam who died defending Kazan from the armies of Ivan the Terrible, Kul Sharif Mosque remains most famous for its observation balcony and dome, designed to resemble a lotus flower. Completed in 2005, this lavish building stands on the remains of a 16th-century structure, once the biggest mosque in Russia. Part of the city's World Heritage-listed citadel, the mosque houses a museum dedicated to the history of Islam in Tatarstan. Keep in mind that according to Islamic tradition, only men can enter the ground-floor prayer hall, and women must keep their hair covered in all parts of the mosque. Visitors to the third-floor observation balcony do not need to remove their shoes. • The main landmark of the town is a mosque in the heart of the Kremlin. Very much like her show. Bauman Street passed to promenade. That's where the beauty! Stunning views-even Bowl is seen. In the summer, so generally catch the spirit (I think so). The mosque is a beautiful, compact and very touristy. Nobody makes you zakutyvatsja in Abai, take off your shoes and closed from the world. I fell to my liking in a historic mosque on the banks of one of the three lakes (lower wild boar). There is a pedestrian street Kayuma Nasyri, on which the mosque and houses with bright gate. Go there and walk.

  • This mosque is a symbol of the return to Islam, banned in Soviet times. Thanks to this mosque was saved and later restored Annunciation Cathedral. The mosque is beautiful and is a jewel of the Kazan Kremlin, without it, the Kremlin would not be such interesting as of now. This credit goes to the mosque. Mosque erected in memory of Imam Sharif, who defend the Count of Kazan in 1552, after the city was taken, and in the district until 1590-IES was a guerilla war, resulting in the present-day Volga region there are many fortresses and places, became largest cities today Russia (Samara, Ufa, a joskar-OLA, etc.). And the mosque and its name became symbols of fidelity to his people. Once Kol Sharif threw people and today it is in thanks to revive the memory of it in such a beautiful and symbolic location, in the heart of Kazan, in the place where he gave his life, but remained true to himself and people. Very beautiful mosque, a beautiful story, beautiful city.

  • Beautiful landmark within Kazan Kremlin, modern yet classical interior. The mosque is welcoming not only muslims, but tourists in general.
  • If you have the chance, go in the evening, by sunset. Might be the most beautiful building I've ever seen .
  • Tolerant to toutists. Beautiful both on the outside and on the inside.
