#1 of 12 in Zoos & Aquariums in Northwestern District
Zoo / Aquarium Nature / Park
Apart from being one of the largest and oldest zoological gardens in Russia, Kaliningrad Zoo also features a rich, well known arboretum. The zoo was founded in 1896, when this was a German town called Königsberg. Nowadays it houses more than 300 species of animals, including more than 50 species listed as threatened in the International Red Book. The entrance and the walkways are decorated by sculptures, such as a bronze statue of an elk and a stone statue of an orangutan. In the arboretum, look for a relict ginkgo tree, which coexisted with the dinosaurs. • The zoo is in the center of the city. Not too big. Nice place for walking. Some old buildings. I have not seen before so active zoo animals so closely. Bear, elephant, giraffe, lion.  more »
  • The animals are not well cared for, live in small cement chambers, and are not receiving the physical or mental care they deserve. I am shocked that this place gets the level of reviews with the obvio...  more »
  • Your children will love it (but sincerely- the animals do not seem to be happy in the zoo.) Place itself is wonderful.  more »

  • Oh, I adore this place. A lot of animals, interesting facts about them and always improving equipment and infrastructure. Ticket price isn't high and there are some discounts for children, students, groups etc. And they have a good snacks to eat while walking.)
  • This zoo is not so big, but racoons are adorable and their bear is a real star ☺
  • Rather interesting place. Clean area as for guests and as for animals. Tiger is admirable.
  • One of the oldest zoos in europe, pleasant place but not in the best condition
  • It's an awesome zoo if you like the idea of zoos and all, but if you really love animals you'd see how sad they are. They are definitely well taken care of, it is just the captivity that gets to them. I liked the zoo a lot, it has a huge history behind it, but some of the animals looked on the sad side (visited it in late Novemer).
