New Jerusalem Monastery, Istra
(4.6/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Take a short trip away from the bustling center of the city to visit New Jerusalem Monastery, a site that holds a special place in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church. The monastery dates back to the 17th century when Patriarch Nikon built it as a residence. He deliberately chose the location that reminded him of the Holy Land and made sure the design mimicked the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. The monastery had a turbulent history, from ransacking during World War II to closing down under the communist regime, but today it again functions as a spiritual community. The monastery's surroundings give you the freedom to admire the architecture and religious art. Admission is free. But the question is very different, know the history of their family, their country for each relevant ideally, that's why all my friends, as believers, and not very I recommend to visit this amazing place. Let's start with the fact that it was created by the layout of the Temple of Jerusalem, and if you were never in Jerusalem, then this is for you the opportunity to see firsthand what millions of people in the world talk and discuss. Well, if you've been in Jerusalem, then it will be for you an amazing opportunity to again experience the feelings that came rushing at you during the last trip.

  • Definitely worth a visit. Makes a great impression. Astounding scale. It is also worth to drive to a nearby Museum, which was opened 2 years ago.

  • In any journey I want to not only physical, but also mental rest. Staying in a hotel in the suburbs of Istria, we decided to visit the recently renovated Resurrection new Jerusalem male stavropegial monastery. Beautiful, majestic and extraordinarily beautiful place with an amazing history. Before the trip, I advise you to read a story about a monastery on the site of a monastery, or take a tour upon arrival, to truly feel the heavy, but very bright destiny of the shrine.

  • Has not been fully renovated. The temple itself is in excellent condition, in territory not yet through. And it became as it is not mentally ... Platz any.

  • Very beautiful place. Not a great distance from the city. Not infrastructure, but I think soon all change.

  • Pretty much done culturally is restored. Agree with others that the infrastructure yet to establish and develop. While you can get only in the Central and the underground Temple, a large part of the territory still working

  • All very beautiful, beautiful architecture and was a lot of references to the original Church of the Holy Sepulchre. In the monastery does not stop reconstruction and restoration, but because virtually everything looks novodelom built today, while the monastery has a long history since the mid-17th century.
