There is a miraculous icon "It is worthy to eat", presented in the 18th century to the nuns of the Alekseevsk community by the monks of Mount Athos. The church is located on the site of the ancient Trinity male "special" monastery, which existed from 1626 to 1764 years. The main monastic church was dedicated to the Life-giving Trinity and had a chapel in honor of St. Alexander Svirsky. In the people he was called the "Black Trinity" for the difference from the parish church of the same name standing nearby and called the "White Trinity". After the decree of Catherine the Great on the establishment of the monastic states, the monastery was closed, and its churches were converted to parish. By this time, the Trinity Church had fallen into disrepair, so that it was almost impossible to perform the services. His priest, Panteleimon Ivanov, together with the parishioners, asked the church authorities to allow them to build a new stone church. On March 28, 1766 permission was obtained. The new temple was built for a long time - about 15 years. The consecration of the main throne took place in 1777. In 1833, the church was renamed the Holy Dukhovskaya Church to distinguish it from the neighboring Trinity Church (the “White Trinity”). On May 8, 1929, the church was among the first in the city to be closed and transferred to the printing house of the Promkombinat. The bell tower was broken in half, the dome was demolished, the building itself was changed by outbuildings. In 1995, the printing house was moved to a new building, and the church was returned to the Nizhny Novgorod diocese. The first service was held on December 17, 1995, on the feast of the Great Martyr Barbara. 🤗
