Take a boat ride and explore the maze of canals and lakes with floating reed islands on Danube Delta. The region, which also boasts forests, meadows, and sand dunes, is home to wildcats, wolves, foxes, boars, and deer. You'll also find nearly 300 species of birds here, including Egyptian white pelicans, Arctic geese, pygmy cormorants, and white-tailed eagles. The area includes a few scattered villages on the shores, including Chilia Veche--an ancient Greek settlement and the site of a battle between the forces of Vlad the Impaler and of Mahomed II, the conqueror of Constantinople. Start your excursion at the village of Tulcea, at the end of the three channels. Plan to see Danube Delta and other attractions that appeal to you using our Tulcea vacation trip planner.
