Unirii Square, Timisoara

Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web
Named for the sight of the Roman Catholic and the Serbian Orthodox temples facing each other, Unirii Square reflects the city's tolerant spirit. In the past, the square hosted religious ceremonies and military parades; today it serves as a stage for cultural events. The area's most notable buildings include the palace of the former prefecture, the bishop's residence executed in the "national Serbian" style, and the Viennese Baroque palace that houses an art collection. Notice the Baroque Statue of the Trinity, depicting the plague, famine, and war, in the middle of the square. The square also features an 18th-century fountain that once supplied the city with drinking water. • The place has a great charm with some Cafés. If it will run to the city on this car-free part, leave rush behind.

  • This is a nice square. Because our visit in september, there was really not much people. It was quite bald, we were also quickly, they walked. But certainly still bother to even go there!

  • Here is the melting pot of Cluj Napoca, where almost all the festivals and fairs are place it. You don't want to miss a thing.:)
  • Lots of benches to sit on and enjoy the view of the massive church and the huge statue of Matthias Rex. The square is fairly clean and there's often events here, such as concerts and small festivals.
  • Good place to hang lazily around all day. Also, there are open-air concerts most of the summer.
  • Public gatherings hotspot. During wi ter there is a Christmas fair and ice skating ring.
  • Used to be more green and more 'fresh'. Now it's concrete, dull and grey. They should transform back as it was before.
