Sighisoara Historic Center, Sighisoara

(4.8/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
Go back to the time of medieval craftspeople and merchants at Sighisoara Historic Center, a small, fortified town--now a World Heritage Site--built by Saxon settlers in the 12th century. This was the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, a daunting Romanian ruler whose life story inspired the legend of Dracula. Strategically built on a hill, the town played an important commercial role on the route between Central Europe and the Ottoman Empire. Walk amidst the stone and brick houses topped by high tiled roofs. Take the long stairway, covered by the 17th-century wooden roof and guarded by a clock tower, to reach the citadel on top of the hill. Nine out of the original 14 watchtowers remain standing on the citadel wall. To visit Sighisoara Historic Center and other attractions in Sighisoara, use our Sighisoara itinerary planner.

  • We came from Sibiu by car, 1.5 hours drive. Overall a nice ensemble, where it not difficult one when the weather, to verbummeln time. Restaurants and Cafés are plentiful. Unfortunately, churches cost entry (8 Lei) and a main attraction, the clock tower, includes already 15:30. On the way back, we were still on the fortified church of Biertan, takes 1 hour to visit (open until 17: 00) at the most. Still interesting, because there are fortified churches in Transylvania, only.

  • Despite being small and travel in a short time, it's worth strolling through the streets, photographed along with defence towers, climb the clock tower and visit its beautiful cemetery. All under the atmosphere of the middle ages that invites you to recreate the House of the father of vlad tsepesh and where it was born, situated in the central plaza
