Trip Planner: Europe / Romania / Transylvania / Central Romania / Mures County / Sighisoara / Sighisoara Clock Tower
Climb to the wooden balcony at the top of Sighisoara Clock Tower for panoramic views of the town. On your way up, peek into the mechanism of the clock, which rotates the painted wooden figurines of pagan gods personifying the days of the week. The tower was built as part of the city's defense system in the 14th century and used to control the main gate of the citadel. The four corner turrets symbolize the town's judicial autonomy. The roof of the tower gained its present Baroque form after a fire in 1676. The tower, which once stored the city's treasures, today houses its history museum. Great little ethnographic museum on the way up - really quite extensive and superlative views from the balcony round the top. It is a tourist trap but, as with everything else in Romania, a very... more »
Definitely a must see in Sighisoara! The museum itself is worth visiting, but the view from the top of the rower is just breathtaking. Student ticket costs only 4 lei. more »
The place is full of history. It's quite magical from this point of view and would definitely deserve a 5 star rating. Nevertheless, it's not so friendly when it comes to visitors speaking a different language than Romanian. Things need to improve. Being an interesting landmark is not enough sometimes...
What a great place! Filled with history, it's a monument and museum. You'll find various historical accounts about the town and surrounding area. The top view is breathtaking, with ample chance to see other landmarks and take in the sights of the valley below. If you're here, you MUST visit!
Great experience. Interesting rooms inside with different stories while climbing to the top. The view from the top is amazing. Worth visiting.
Arguably Sighisoara's most well-known building. The inside of the building houses a small exhibition and there are some great views across the old town from the top of the building.
Beautiful location, nice panorama on the city. Should you have time, visit the city during spring or autumn with less tourists. It is far different.
