Clock Tower, Sighisoara
(4.5/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Climb to the wooden balcony at the top of Clock Tower for panoramic views of the town. On your way up, peek into the mechanism of the clock, which rotates the painted wooden figurines of pagan gods personifying the days of the week. The tower was built as part of the city's defense system in the 14th century and used to control the main gate of the citadel. The four corner turrets symbolize the town's judicial autonomy. The roof of the tower gained its present Baroque form after a fire in 1676. The tower, which once stored the city's treasures, today houses its history museum. Put Clock Tower and other Sighisoara attractions into our Sighisoara family vacation planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • One of many attractions in UNESCO accredited Sighisoara. Travel up the Clock Tower through the History Museum to the top for splendid views of historical Sighisoara Citadel & Town below. Recommended.

  • The clock tower Turnul Cu Ceas, or magnificent building dating from the 14th century, is also known as the Tower of the Council for having been used as a place of Sighoara City Council meetings until 1556. In 1676, a huge fire in the city, which blew up the powder deposits of Turnul Croitorilor-Tailors Tower-also destroyed the roof of the clock tower, which, rebuilt by Austrian artists, gave him a Baroque style. And, in 1894, were added colored tiles, kept until today. In the 17 century, the Tower won a watch, with figures carved from Linden wood, with a display overlooking the lower town, and the other to the Citadel. At 6 A.M., the statue of an Angel, symbolizing the day appears, marking the beginning of the working day and at 6 P.M., the Angel symbolizing the night out, carrying two burning candles, marking the end of the working day. To this day, the clock works perfectly. The pinnacle of the Tower ends with a small Golden Ball. At the top, there is a weather cock, if you become as a result of air currents, can allow the "understood" make the weather forecast. Since 1899, the Tower began to house the Museum of history. For a fee (10 lei), you can climb the stairs to the top of the Tower, and along this staircase, there is an exhibition of garments and objects, but it is forbidden to take pictures unless you pay an extra fee-and don't make it up, because, where is it really worth photographing, is the terrace, and there's free and if it gets magnificent photos of the red roofs of the houses of the old town , 16 century survivors along narrow cobbled streets.

  • Greatest highlight of Sighisoara citadell. Hosts the history museum, great views from the top and inside you can find the model of the old city from the 17 hundreds.
  • Fair price. Good views from the tower. Boring as a museum. Fair price to visit.
  • A nice museum where you can see medieval finds. The view from the tower is wonderful
  • Very nice view from the observers deck. Clock mechanism is well preserved and runs great.
  • Wonderful view over the town of Sighişoara. It was totally worth it to climb the stairs.
