Clock Tower, Sighisoara

4.6
Climb to the wooden balcony at the top of Clock Tower for panoramic views of the town. On your way up, peek into the mechanism of the clock, which rotates the painted wooden figurines of pagan gods personifying the days of the week. The tower was built as part of the city's defense system in the 14th century and used to control the main gate of the citadel. The four corner turrets symbolize the town's judicial autonomy. The roof of the tower gained its present Baroque form after a fire in 1676. The tower, which once stored the city's treasures, today houses its history museum. • Beautiful tower with its height of over 60 meters dominates the town, dates back to 1200, has thick walls and a beautiful multicolored tiled roof. Original clock which is half of the 1600 colored wooden figurines that marks the passing of tempo...in a town where time has stood still.

  • A must see in sighisoara.. In fact you wouldn't miss it.. It's the first thing you see of the old Town.. The views from the top are amazing and it's a sight that should not be missed.. It also has these iron plates with the distance to each city written on them which is quite an innovative touch.. The history of the place is well defined as well.. A must visit.. The entry fee is around 10 Lei per person..
  • From the top of the Clock Tower you can enjoy the best views of Sighisoara. Taking photos is not allowed inside the tower and there is a small entrance fee. 17-18.9.2016
  • The most prominent tower in the city. You will not miss it! The information counter is just beneath this clock tower. The staff were friendly and helpful. Felt that Sighisoara is much beautiful than Sibiu old city. This city has full of charm and historical value. The place is not too big and can complete within 2-3 hours. There are many good restaurants nearby the old town. Last but not least, the drive from Brasov to Sighisoara was amazing with all the greenery and curvy roads.
  • Really cool and interesting place. The view was very nice. The ladies at the entrance were very nice to us. It’s worth spending some time here.
  • A fun and family friendly site to explore. The total cost for 2 adults and 2 kids was 38 Lei. The steps up are a mix of ladders and bricks. It might be difficult for elderly people to make it to the top but if it's not overly strenuous. There are many places to take breaks as well as museum style attractions that inform you about the tower's history. The view from the top is impressive and worth it.
