4.7/5 based on 120+ reviews on the web
The red-and-yellow brick building of Orthodox Cathedral, topped with a copper roof and decorated with round mosaics depicting Jesus and the four evangelists, represents the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Archbishop. The architecture of this early 20th-century cathedral combines the elements of a Byzantine basilica with Baroque influences. Its main entrance is flanked by two tall towers with skylights ending in double bulbs. Above the entrance, notice an arched stained-glass window with a scene from the Old Testament depicting three angels seated at the table--representing the Holy Trinity. A massive gold chandelier beneath the central dome and the three-story golden iconostasis dominate the interior. The walls and ceilings are covered with neo-Byzantine frescoes. • Beautiful interior, extremely peaceful, in the heart of the historic centre. Worth a visit and spend some time inside admiring the frescoes.
  • Main church in Sibiu, unusual architecture (according to the model of Hagia Sofia), impressive both from outside and also on the inside.
