  • At the end of the 17th century Austrian troops arrived in Sibiu and, with them, important Catholic representatives came and Jesuit monks, who settled in the Piata Mare, forming a small Catholic community. As the city has always been open to free expression of faith, has started the construction of a Catholic Church, between 1726 and 1738, dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The Church has Baroque Viennese style, featuring simple exterior and an interior Rico in decorative elements, with classic décor. The tower was attached to the Church in 1738 and a year later, a cross was placed on top. At street level, the tower features a vaulted hallway that leads to the Piata Mica. The interior is magnificent with walls boasting gold and showing colourful frescoes. The stone carvings cover much of the central nave, while the side altars and colonnades glisten with pink marble. The fresco behind the altar was painted in 1777 by Anton Steinwald. Inside the Church is the grave of Otto Ferdinand de Abensberg, Commander of Transylvania between 1744-1747. In the present day, are generally held once a week, organ recitals.

  • Although relatively small, this Catholic Church has become a symbol of the city. Dome and towers over the surrounding buildings. One of the oldest churches in the city.
  • The old Roman-Catholic church was located up to 1545 in the Saint Mary Cathedral in the Huet Square. From the reformation of the church in Transylvania, the actual building is home of the Roman-Catholic cathedral. The main attraction of the church are the concerts held every week, as well as the baroque interior design (unlike the gothic design of the Evanghelic cathedral).
  • Great building.
  • This place is an architectural marvel, make sure to visit!
  • Excellent baroque Church. It dominates the Large Square.
