(500+ reviews on the web)
Castle Tourist Spot
Cetatea Taraneasca Rasnov, also known as the "fortress of fear," attracts ghost hunters because of its infamous well and the recent discoveries of human bones in the castle's basement. A group of knights from the Teutonic Order built the intimidating fortress, which later served as a refuge for peasants during foreign invasions in 1215. Learn the legend of the well built by two Turkish prisoners who were promised their freedom upon completing the task and then were betrayed. A feudal museum exhibits old weaponry, tools, stamps, and traditional dress. Look for a skeleton buried underneath a glass floor. You can also try archery at the castle, or rest in one of several cafes and restaurants. • Need to visit if you are in the zone. The fortress has been restored in the last years but nothing spectacular. Good for kids with a nice view.  more »
  • Very nice view and a walk to remember. Beautiful for families with children both walking or taking the elevator.  more »
  • This is worth visiting for the views. It is 12 ron to get in and 12 ron for return trip on Funicular railway from town centre. However it has very unsafe paving and railings. There were lots of school...  more »

  • It is one of the best preserved fortress in the country. There was a guide explaining to some people the purpose of each building. I really didn't like the souvenirs shops, way too many. A good way to spend a couple of hours in this area.
  • Good place to visit big fortress with an breathtaking view. Lots of gifts, shops and even a bar that serves alcohol just outside the gates. Inside the fortress they play traditional music and the staff are dressed in traditional wear, very historic and atmospheric.
  • Up on the hill, great views. You can take the furnicular if you don't feel like the walk. I would say that this site needs some investment in order to maintain its historic assets.
  • The climb is really worth it for the views alone! A nice old citadel. Not very crowded. A visit to the old collectioner's display shop is a must. However, overall it really seems like a very sad and lonely place.
  • It's easily accessible by lift, but for those who want the exercise, they can climb up. The views are worth the climb, there are plenty of interesting stalls selling handicrafts and souvenirs and, best of all, it's not too crowded. There were plenty of family groups when I visited, as there were quite a few attractions for kids, such as a dinosaur park, a donkey ride and, down in the town, a carousel. Regular bus services run from Brasov's autogara 2 for only 4 lei one way.
