Architectural Building
The Metropolitan Cathedral, Iași, located at 16 Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt Boulevard, Iaşi, Romania, is the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of Iaşi and Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bukovina, and the largest Orthodox church in Romania. It is dedicated to Saint Paraschiva, to the Presentation of Jesus and to Saint George. Its form was inspired by the late Italian Renaissance style, with Baroque elements dominating the interior and exterior decorative features. The Metropolitan Cathedral is listed in the National Register of Historic Monuments.HistoryTwo churches previously stood on the site: the White Church and the Presentation Church . On 8 August 1826, prince Ioan Sturdza signed a decree ordering construction of the cathedral; Metropolitan Veniamin Costache laid the cornerstone on 3 July 1833 and guided construction in its early years. Work began in 1833, using a neo-classical design by Viennese architects Gustav Freywald and Bucher, and continued at a rapid pace until 1841, in the latter years under the Russian architect Mihail Singurov. In 1839, serious cracks had appeared on the large central arch, which collapsed on 23 May 1857, taking the interior columns with it. Various solutions were attempted, but the building remained ruined for decades.

  • Too bad the presence of construction facade but already details visible left me fascinated. It is a popular place of pilgrimage for the presence of the remains of a Saint is very important for the area. For this reason, inside is always very busy and you cannot visit well too because it doesn't seem the case given the strong devotion of the faithful inside.

  • the Cathedral is in Italian Renaissance style, has four bell towers, and is dedicated to Saint Parascheva venerated throughout the Orthodox Church, this is a place of pilgrimage. Many pilgrims lined up visiting his remains, not having much time, we can't stand in line, then we visit the Church which is very nice.
