Museum of National History and Archeology, Constanta

4.1
#1 of 9 in Museums in Southeast Romania
Museum of National History and Archeology houses an impressive historical and cultural heritage dating from the Paleolithic era to contemporary times, including a rare 2nd-century sculpture of Glycon, an ancient Macedonian snake god. The massive building, erected in 1921, is itself an example of Brâncovenesc architectural style, which combines Venetian and Ottoman influences. Exhibits are arranged chronologically. On the ground floor, see the collections of gold jewelry, silver vessels, gems, cameos, ancient coins, sculptures, and vases. The rooms on the upper floors showcase icons, maps, photographs, telegrams, and personal belongings of some notable people of the early 20th century. The complex is also home to the Roman Edifice of Mosaic. • A nice museum. I recommend to visit if you are around. Its worth it
  • The museum is housed in a national monument building, former city hall of Constanta before world war 1. It's located in old town, oversees the statue of Ovidiu and the main square. It has unique pieces of historical artifacts, such as the thinker of Hamangia, Glycon the snake god and the earthly remains of an ancient roman woman, mammoth tusks and various other unique artifacts with strong connections to the history of Dobrudja. Must see and visit for any tourist. The setting and atmosphere of the museum will surely leave a lasting impression on anyone.

Where to stay in Constanta

To save money on a trip to Constanta, book your accommodations in the old quarter around Sfatului Square, instead of the higher-priced neighboring town of Mamaia. Reserve a spot at a hotel, hostel, or guesthouse here and all of the nightlife and parties will be within a 15-minute cab ride. If you came to enjoy the beach, stay in one of the hotels or apartments along the Black Sea coast. Reserve your room well in advance if you plan to visit during the summer, as availability is limited and prices are higher.
