Bucharest North railway station is the main railway station in Bucharest and the largest railway station in Romania. The vast majority of mainline trains to and from Bucharest originate from Gara de Nord.HistoryIt was initially named Gara Târgoviștei, after the road nearby, Calea Târgoviștei .The first railways between Roman - Galați - Bucharest - Pitești were built in 1872.The station and its surroundings were heavily bombed by the Allies in April 1944 during a campaign aimed at the Axis supply lines, since the station played an important part in the Romanian railway network and was the main departure point for troops headed to the Eastern Front.Current statusThere are currently 14 tracks and 8 platforms.As of 2009, Gara de Nord served about 200 trains, including domestic trains operated by Căile Ferate Române, Regiotrans and Trans Feroviar calatori as well international trains to Hungary - Budapest, Bulgaria - Sofia, Varna and Burgas, Republic of Moldova - Chișinău, Ukraine - Kiev, Dnepropetrovsk and Chernivtsi, Austria - Vienna, Turkey - Istanbul, Russia - Moscow and Saratov, Belarus - Minsk.

  • The station looks pretty much unchanged from when I first set foot here fifteen years ago: same old-fashioned display panels, same battered old kiosks that sell everything from magazines to AAA batter...  more »
  • We travelled safely, there is the Metro that takes you directly to the station, the police station is in that in the trains, a great Hall ticket office with so many doors open ... organized I would say!

  • Normal station. Moderately messy, noisy and silly. Reminiscent of the stations of the regional centers of RUSSIA end 90 's. the terminals for the sale of railway tickets deal only in Romanian, true priinimaût bank cards. The subway is directly accessible from the station building (then the arrivals-left side). In the center of the building a few eateries, coffee and muffins in the road. Clear pointers, getting lost difficult. Attraction.
