Biserica Stavropoleos, Bucharest
(4.7/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Biserica Stavropoleos has been compared to a jewelry box because of its small size, rich exterior, and interior choral style decoration. Observe the ornate stone and wood carvings, particularly on the church's main doors, as well as the restored 18th-century ceiling and wall paintings. As one of the city's oldest churches, the house of worship is also known for its collection of Byzantine music books, ancient texts, and sacred objects. It's the only surviving part of the original women's monastery built in 1724. Notice the collection of tombstones scattered around the courtyard surrounded by a richly ornamented colonnade with oriental arches. Make Biserica Stavropoleos a centerpiece of your Bucharest vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Bucharest vacation generator.

  • The outside of the building is beautiful, and inside ever more so. They have some beautiful frescoes.
  • Inspiring architecture! No matter the religion, you will appreciate the feeling of calm and peace that comes from this beautiful place.
  • Simply beautiful, like all Orthodox churches. We were lucky enough to see the end of a ceremony and I thought it was very interesting. I think that the Orthodox churches in Bucharest would deserve a tour apart was one of the things that more I liked

  • I passed by this church while walking on the Stavropoleos Street. Its harmonious design and beautiful ornamentations are actually eye-catching 🏛.
  • Beautiful small chapel in the historical centre of Bucharest. One of the buildings that "survived" the second world war. Must see! Go inside, you will feel the unique spirit of this place!
