Mount Tampa, Brasov

4.5
#1 of 86 in Nature in Romania
Walk up one of the twisting trails or ride a cable car to reach the top of Mount Tampa, which offers panoramic views of the city. The mountain rises 900 m (2,952 ft) above sea level as a natural landmark that divides the new area of the town with condos and factories from its medieval section. You'll be able to distinguish the old German district of the town because of its red roofs. From the top, you can walk over the ridges of the hills following the marked trails to higher altitudes. The shaded alley along the side of the old fortress walls at the foot of the hill is a popular strolling spot. • Arrived the day after Christmas Snow in March. The site was open, but there was no one but us. We have the top of the mountain that was all wrapped up. All the restaurants were closed and so. We waited for over 15 minutes until the next cable car (only an activated for us ...) and we went down. It's a family activity sunny days only.

  • The mountain (or large hill) starts in the Centre of Brasov. It can be reached by a cable car, but when the weather's nice, it's much better get walking. It is a route of an hour, somewhat steep but not complicated. Upstairs is very good views of the city, from the poster of Brasov.

  • Mount Tampa overlooks the city of Brasov in Transylvania, Romania. The views from the top of Mount Tampa are pretty spectacular over Brasov. The hike up the mountain took me some 80 minutes but it was...  more »

  • Great place. Amazing, the paths are clear and beautiful. The brasov sign is not such an excitement, just like the cable car. Still though, it's a MOST visit.
  • A must see in Brasov. Takes about one and a half hours to get to the top, the hike is not too difficult and the view of the city is amazing, especially at night.
  • Whether it's summer or winter, the hike is doable (though in winter you have to be prepared for icy conditions with some good boots) and fun. It could take you up to one hour and a half if you walk slowly and take breaks, so it's never that strenuous. When you get to the top, the path splits between the 1 minute walk to the sign and the top of the hill (2-3 minutes). The top has the better view, W-NW-N, while the sign has a terrace to admire the Old City of Brasov in the North direction.
  • La coma del teleférico fue un poco larga, pero valió la pena. Las vistas son geniales
  • One of the best short hikes you can take in Romania . It takes roughly one hour to reach the top... the view is spectacular ( overview of Brasov plus the surroundings ) . Cable car is cheap and functional ( could use some renovations though ). There are some resting places or picnic spots , but there is also a restaurant uphill ( not the best, bot it works if you’re hungry ). Totally recommend to go up there !
