Mount Tampa, Brasov

4.5
#1 of 86 in Nature in Romania
Walk up one of the twisting trails or ride a cable car to reach the top of Mount Tampa, which offers panoramic views of the city. The mountain rises 900 m (2,952 ft) above sea level as a natural landmark that divides the new area of the town with condos and factories from its medieval section. You'll be able to distinguish the old German district of the town because of its red roofs. From the top, you can walk over the ridges of the hills following the marked trails to higher altitudes. The shaded alley along the side of the old fortress walls at the foot of the hill is a popular strolling spot. • I can never get bored of the amazing views from the top. You can hike all the way up or take the "telecabina" which is costing you 17 lei per person (about $5 US dollars) to go up and come back down. ...  more »
  • You can see entire city's panorama from above. This mountain is used for hiking or to run. Beautiful place, with bears, too under the Sunset. :) So take care.  more »
  • The views are nice but it is crowded. Personally the cartel seems ugly to the Hollywood of Brasov and also once up nor is there a ready viewpoint, only you can stroll between irons of the cartel. Gondola Sinaia much better, better views and more space and less crowded.

  • One of the best short hikes you can take in Romania . It takes roughly one hour to reach the top... the view is spectacular ( overview of Brasov plus the surroundings ) . Cable car is cheap and functional ( could use some renovations though ). There are some resting places or picnic spots , but there is also a restaurant uphill ( not the best, bot it works if you’re hungry ). Totally recommend to go up there !
  • It's a beautiful hike and not too strenuous up to the top. However, I'm only giving it 3 stars because of tick infestation. When we went up there in May, my dog climbed down with 12 ticks attached to him. Luckily, my dog had anti-tick protection and is fine. I'd be reluctant to go back, though.
  • Prices: 10 leu - up 17 leu - up&down 10 leu - down Don't use the restroom before the car (the one you need to pay for), there is one at the ticket place! The ride is short but enjoyable, if you don't see much of the town because of the people simply take a walk from there over to the viewpoint :) There you can get some really great shots of the view You can also take an hour and a half long walk to the top
  • Awesome views next to the Hollywood-esque 'BRASOV' sign. With the cable car bringing you all the way up, you barely have to walk 5 minutes to get there. Alright, will let the pictures do the talking.
  • Amazing how high up you are. Great views. Took the yellow route down. Need good footwear.

Where to stay in Brasov

As one of the largest and most visited cities in Romania, Brasov offers a full range of accommodations, from guesthouses and budget lodging, to mid-range and premium hotels. Stay in the historical city center, close to the famous Black Church, to fully enjoy what the city has to offer and to be near to the sights. It's best to book your stay in advance. If you find yourself in need of immediate lodging, find a reputable information center and inquire--avoid solicitors that may approach you in the train station regarding accommodations. Be sure to inquire whether or not your hotel provides hot water, as this is not always a given here.
