Council Square, Brasov

Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 800+ reviews on the web
Lined with red-roofed medieval merchant houses evoking the region's German heritage, Council Square shows off Black Church, the town's most prominent landmark. You'll find a pillory in the middle of the square, where witches and other misfits were once scorned and punished. The square was named after the 15th-century council house, which is home to the town's history museum. The ancient watchtower, which today is part of the main building, is even older. Take a break at one of the many indoor or outdoor terraces or in the Renaissance Merchant's House, which has been turned into a restaurant. Put Council Square and other Brasov attractions into our Brasov vacation trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • My boyfriend and I would wander around the square every night. It was so full of life, and great food and drinks. One of our favourite parts of our trip!
  • Surrounded by cafes, restaurants, great architecture, fountains and views of the mountains, this public space is gorgeous. This is the center of Brasov and is a great place to spend hours relaxing, people watching or taking pictures. Very European-looking straight out of a fairy tale, Brasov Council Square is fantastic gathering place for locals and tourists day or night.
  • This is close to the old historic Brasov center. I recommend taking a look at the architecture. I also think that they offer tours. It's interesting to note which government functions are still there and which have moved to a different location.
  • Brasov's main square. Wonderful square surrounded by historical buildings and nice restaurants. A lot of nice shows and events happen here all the year.
  • Good place. But this is a tourist trap place. Tooo many ppl
  • As town square go this is among the best places in Brasov. The square is still the centre of life. Regular markets, concerts & other events always worth walk though what ever day of the week
