Bastionul Graft, Brasov

4.3
Located on fortified walls that once encircled medieval Brasov, Bastionul Graft houses a small collection belonging to a regional history museum. The two-story bastion was built in the first quarter of the 16th century and served as a passage for soldiers commuting between the city and the tower. Notice the walls' loopholes and crevices, which were used for pouring boiling water on the enemy. The museum on the second floor features weapons, armor, and lithographs of the city’s ancient fortifications. Alley leads on the outer side of the walls along the stream/channel, hidden in the shade of the trees. The Bastion itself is nothing special-ot another attraction which can be admired only from the outside.

Inside of the wall. Very unusual to me. Maybe it is very normal for 15-th century.

Where to stay in Brasov

As one of the largest and most visited cities in Romania, Brasov offers a full range of accommodations, from guesthouses and budget lodging, to mid-range and premium hotels. Stay in the historical city center, close to the famous Black Church, to fully enjoy what the city has to offer and to be near to the sights. It's best to book your stay in advance. If you find yourself in need of immediate lodging, find a reputable information center and inquire--avoid solicitors that may approach you in the train station regarding accommodations. Be sure to inquire whether or not your hotel provides hot water, as this is not always a given here.
