Create an itinerary including Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle)
Originally built in the 14th century, Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle) draws visitors because of its association with the bloodthirsty 15th-century Romanian ruler, Vlad the Impaler. The castle served as a fortress guarding the mountain pass and was advertised as the home of the ruler--also known as Dracul (the devil), who inspired the legend of Dracula. Perched on a rock above the river, the site offers panoramic views of the mountains. Today, its interiors feature art and furniture that belonged to the last Romanian Queen, Marie. Different rooms house some historical writings and the royal family tree. Check out an open-air museum in the park at the bottom of the hill with traditional Romanian peasant cottages and barns. • Bran Castle is always an amazing place to visit, unfortunately on this occasion, due to the current situation, I was unable to visit the castle on the inside. Update: We returned in July 2022. The castle is definitely worth visiting on the inside. So much too see and amazing views to enjoy. The experience itself is worth the money. Definitely recommend it and will come back.
  • Very touristy but nice place. I recommend a visit right after opening, but there will still be a lot of other people with you. Nice views are from the balconies of the castle and from the castle park. I definitely recommend a visit, but be prepared for the crowd. If you buy tickets online, you don't have to wait in line.
  • It's a beautiful castle and it's been turned into a real tourist attraction. The grounds all have signs to shops, restaurants and inside the castle you follow a set path. All around the castle are little Souvenir shops and some snack stalls. We went on a Thursday and arrived at 4:50pm, there was a really long line. The castle stops selling tickets at 6pm, but it seems that people who get in late can hang around and explore. We got in around 5:30 and were able to explore and shop at the museum shop even at 6:30pm. It took us 1 hour to see everything, but others definitely stayed around a bit more. By the time we left the restaurant was closed, so if you want things to be open make sure to get there early as parking around the area can be tough in high season. Some stairs and hallways are very small so if you're claustrophobic be aware. The castle has 2 additional add on to the standard self tour: tower/tunnel that looks like a long elevator down and the medieval torture devices. We did the medieval torture devices add on and it was a few rooms with replicas and some legitimate devices and explanations. The history and the views are worth it :)
  • We wanted to send a massive thank you to Alex, and the entire staff at Bran Castle for a magical wedding experience. The venue is a national treasure, and I can’t imagine a better location for Brad and I to celebrate our special evening with friends and family from Romania and around the world. Alex is a consummate host, and his attentions helped turn the castle into our home for the evening. We had around 50 people at the wedding, and the size of the venue worked quite well. We highly recommend Bran Castle!!!
  • It's okay. Very nice and well preserved castle. I don't like the atmosphere there. Vampire story is just made up to bring more tourist to the castle and get as much profit as they can. If you really know the history of king Vlad, nothing makes sense and actually then you discover his castle is even in completely different place. Fact that some American guy (current owner) just made some cheap and overcrowded attraction from this beautiful historic place is sad. Ticket price is definitely too high comparing to what you can see in other castles in this region. Is it worth to see? If you love castles as I do then you may consider it. There is plenty of tourists and kids making this place hard to enjoy. But there are some quiet places, especially at the gardens :)
