Mustafa Pasha's Mosque, Skopje

4.0
#6 of 10 in Historic Sites in Skopje
Overlooking the old bazaar and surrounded by a rose garden, Mustafa Pasha's Mosque serves as a significant religious monument from the Ottoman period in Macedonia. An Ottoman vizier, Mustafa Pasha, built the mosque with an open portico in 1492 (look for the inscription above the entrance). Notice the elaborate carvings on the wooden gate. The interior walls of the building are painted with gray floral motifs set against a blue background. A light green carpet and a gilded crystal chandelier hang under the giant dome. The tűrbe plated with white marble holds the grave of the Pasha and the lavishly decorated stone sarcophagus belongs to Umi, one of his daughters. Mustafa Pasha's Mosque is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Skopje Edition.

It is one of the few inherited remnants of the Ottomans in Skopje. Dates from 1492, although it was rebuilt with the help of the Turks in 2011. There is a mausoleum in the back. Free.

  • Mustapha Pasha Mosque is definitely one of the most beautiful monuments from the Ottoman period in Macedonia. It was erected in 1492, at the entrance there is a porch supported by four columns, and the main part has a square plan covered with a dome. The minaret is 60 m high. Inside the complex there is a turbe, the grave of the founder Mustafa Pasha himself and a richly decorated sarcophagus of his daughter Uma .
  • Very beautiful mosq comes from Ottomain times
  • Mustafa Pasha Mosque is a mosque located in the Old Bazaar of Skopje, Macedonia. It stands on a plateau above the old bazaar and is one of the most beautiful Islamic buildings in Macedonia. It was built in 1492 by Mustafa Pasha, vizier on the court of Sultan Selim I. The mosque is elegant and intact, and no additions have been made through the years. The interior is beautiful, simple, and spacious. In the turbe next to the mosque, lies the daughter of Mustafa Pasha. The mosque has a rose garden and it offers fine views over Skopje's old bazaar. A five year renovation of the mosque, funded by the Turkish government, was completed in August 2011.
