Learn about the movements and conflicts that helped to shape modern Macedonia at Museum of Macedonian Struggle, documenting the country's long road to independence. Opened in 2011, the museum presents a timeline of Macedonian resistance to foreign rule from its conquest by the Ottomans in the 14th century to its split from Yugoslavia. Wander the exhibitions covering different leadership figures, historic events, and the beginnings of famous resistance organizations, including the famous Haiduk rebels of the 17th century. Carry on to the final exhibit, dedicated to victims of the Yugoslav Communist dictatorship after World War II, as well as Macedonia's renewed sovereignty. Don't miss the museum's centerpiece: the original copy of the country's Declaration of Independence from 1991. • History has been changed and adjusted for this museum made for brainwashing youth and foreigners strictly following political propaganda. The top of kitch could be seen here and around. I would recomm...  more »
  • I was there in September, 2016. I didn't expect the tour will be so nice. I have a good guide with perfect English, and told as told the history of Macedonia in a very detailed way. I think the museum...  more »
  • Visited here as we couldn't get in to the holocaust museum and glad we did. We had to be led by a tour guide for the 40 minute tour (which lasted two hours) but that made it much better. The guide (Pe...  more »

  • It is worth seeing once you are in Skopje unless you are with children - the tour is allowed with the guide only and last at least 1 hour so no child may bear it! The exhibition itself is well prepared, interesting and guides are definitely committed to their job. I strongly recommend however that you create an option of visiting without guides - even at the same price (with audio guide equipment?) - that would enable some less engaged wifes ☺ and children coming in.
  • Disappointing ...not welcoming .You can't buy tickets in museum only on-line and can't visit museum single only in group. 2 of us Macedonians want to visit museum. We want to buy tickets ,1 staff want to sale tickets (100 denars) asked us where are you from why you are here?,2 staff came and said that tickets are available only on-line can"t purchase from the museum ,3 staff only groups allowed to visit no single visitors. They said that they follow museum regulations. Overall Macedonians are not welcomed
  • Interesting experience; I loved the fact that you actually have a guide that talks to you through the struggle. There are a lot of wax figures representing important people that marked the Macedonian uprising. Not to be confused with the Museum of Macedonia, which is located after the Old Bazar, next to the Mosque.
  • They have private tours for everyone that buys a ticket, and the guy didn't stop talking, explained every single thing. Thumbs up!
  • Unique experience...
