Macedonia Square, Skopje

Categories: Historic Walking Areas, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
3.6/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web
Take a stroll around Macedonia Square, the largest plaza in the country and one of the capital city's primary meeting places and public areas. Though surrounded by communist-style buildings, the square has undergone intensive government renovation in order to transform it into a modern and inviting space. Walk around the square, taking in the nearby mountain scenery. Pass by the numerous monuments that dot the plaza, including those honoring Roman emperor Justinian, Tsar Samuel, and several groups of Macedonian revolutionary figures. Be sure to get up close to the towering statue of a sword-bearing warrior on horseback, controversially said to represent Alexander the Great. • The main square and the city centre is being renovated. And in my opinion is overdone. Fountains with led lighting, an enormous amount of statues, etc
  • Everything in Skopje is easy to reach by foot. Very beautiful new statues, fountains, new monuments and buildings from the project "Skopje 2014."
  • Even though a bit exaggerated, this place sure looks beautiful and have nice atmosphere.Lovely to watch.
  • Nice look but can be better
  • Awesome destination to visit, great picture locations, lot's of monuments and fountains.
  • Some kind of cruising area for the local at the evening and therefore center of activity. The fountains are kitsch.
  • Way too many statues.... Macedonian government, get your s#*t together!
  • The city square is a bit crowded with monuments and is no longer the big empty place that can be used for concerts, but kn the other hand, it got a renovation and the fountains are stunning! Visit it during the day and during the night!
