Hike your way up to the top of the castle hill and admire the work of its imposing stone walls. Enter the fortress and explore the interior; though it's unrestored within, you can get a good sense of the layout. Be sure to climb atop the ramparts for a sweeping view of Lake Ohrid, the town, and the surrounding mountainous landscape. • When we were in Sofia, we learned that Ohrid had once been the capital of Bulgaria. This mighty fortress, built during the 10th century by the Bulgarian king, is the most obvious legacy of that time. ...  more »
  • A beautiful fort where you're sure to go if you're in the area! Great views over the Lake of ohrid, but many litter in the fort a bit unfortunate, but the entrance fee is well worth it

  • To reach the fortress you will pass by and walk up hill via the nice old town of ohrid. Small fortress with great big and high walls. Very nice view from the top
  • you get such amazing views of the town and lake from here. totally worth the hike!
  • Amazing 360° unobstructed views of the city, lake and mountain! Combine that with the thought of how much has happened here and how many human lives have been changed and you get goosebumps! The hike to the top of the hill is the one most important thing to do here in Ohrid and is an adventure by itself not to mention a good way to burn some calories from eating all that BUREK!
  • Monumentally...you must visit it and learn part of Macedonian history...
  • Very nice site but no any info about the fortress (there should be tables with descriptions at least). Great views at the city and the lake. Admission fee 30 dinar (about €0.50) which is totally worth it!
